I absolutely love this watch:
http://www.zenith-watches.com/en/#/collection/flow/6/44

Has anyone seen one up close at an AD? What's the pricing? I won't have a chance to get to my dealer for about 10 days and am very curious about this one. I don't think it's quite as beautiful as the Breitling Transocean but it's sportier and very classic. Please don't let it be outrageously expensive... :|

Ouch. So probably in the neighborhood of 8700chf on leather. Time to sell a kidney. I knew I should have gone into law rather than the sciences...

Thanks sharkman.

Pricing information is still difficult to come by for this watch. I see the $10K number mentioned in at least one place but I've just come across this on the AskMen website in a report on Basel 2012:
Quote:
I’m a sucker for a handsome aviation watch, and last year I fell wholly for the Pilot Chronograph launched by Zenith. That watch turns out to have been a teaser for this year’s trio of charismatic aviator pieces: a world timer, a historical tribute piece that’s a whopping 58 millimeters across, and this, the Big Date Special. I’m transfixed by the font used for the numerals, and the balance of the entire design is flawless. It shares with its year-old predecessor both Zenith’s El Primero calibre -- the most celebrated chronograph movement ever made -- and the presence of the word “pilot” on the dial, something for which only Zenith has the copyright. Like last year’s watch, it's priced well, at around $7,300.

That price is with the leather strap but certainly the bracelet price isn't $3K more. I hope that this is the correct pricing but it could be wishful thinking. One gray market dealer lists a similar retail price but I don't know how reliable they are. Does anyone have more information about pricing for this watch?

Zenith accessories - like bracelets - are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I had a Chronomaster Moonage on the bracelet and it kicked the price up to $10K. So I wouldn't be surprised to see a price somewhere in the 7s on strap and likely a tang strap at that - their deploys are silly expensive too.

That's fine with me -- I prefer the brown leather strap (yes, it's with a tang buckle) and would prefer that anyway.

Thanks for the reply. Do you ever sleep?

I agree - maybe that's why I like both watches so much.

As for pricing, I continue to scour the internet and came across a post on WUS (it wasn't easy to find), a report from the Zenith booth at Basel. It lists pricing for the watch on leather as 5400chf (Swiss pricing is what I need anyway). IF that's correct, you'll be reading my review of this watch as soon as it's available and the SOH will have to wait.

$7,600 on bracelet. The 10,300 is for the 57mm monster version also introduced this year.

Thanks. That's more like it, though I like the 5400chf number better (about $5900). With Breitling pricing, it seems like simply converting the USD price to CHF gets fairly close. Maybe Zenith has greater discrepancies between countries. May have to head down to the boutique in Geneva this week to have a look -- the watch isn't in yet at my local AD.

As for the 57mm monster, it's a shame -- I absolutely cannot wear anything larger than 56mm.

Keep the warranty handy if you buy it, and take pictures of the watch so that you'll remember what it looks like - Istarted to forget what mine was after the first 3 months at the service centre (the first time that is).

I've read a few passing references to your Zenith problem, Roff, but I don't know the whole sordid tale. I'll hope that it's more an isolated incident than endemic to the brand. Where's the fingers crossed emoticon?

Finally got definitive pricing for this watch (from the Zenith boutique): 6500chf on leather or 6900chf on steel. I would guess that the prices in USD aren't too different, perhaps a little higher.
