I've always thought that I wasn't really into dive watches. I don't hate them (OK, I've seen some that I hate) but they just never really grabbed me. Some have come close -- the Omega PO with Liquidmetal is really beautiful but the numbers on the bezel just don't do it for me. So in general, I've mostly ignored the genre.

A little while back, jnelson posted about a visit to Govberg and included many photos. One that I really liked was the Superocean Heritage (I didn't know that's what it was when I first saw it). What a beautiful watch. So I looked at them on the Breitling website and used the "build your own" feature. I settled on black bezel/black dial and black calf, 42mm, the perfect size. What a stunning watch that is. I've revisited the website each day to look again and keep liking it more and more.

Today I visited my local AD to see the watch in the steel for the first time. I had no intention of going in, I just wanted to see it through the window. WOW! So in I went. Tried it on and it just kept getting better. Fit like a glove, even on my scrawny wrtist. Really a looker. :wowzers

I know you're all expecting me to say that I now own that watch. Unfortunately, I showed some restraint (fear of divorce can have that effect). But that watch is in my head now - you all know the feeling. We'll see how long I can hold out and whether I can write enough magazine articles to get permission to take the plunge sometime soon.

Only a matter of time and diplomatic talks/negotiations with your wife, now.

If I pull this one off anytime soon, there will be talk of a Nobel.

So what you're saying is that I have exquisite taste :) , though fewer blue-striped shirts. Beautiful watch.

Fred only has one shirt - he can't afford more than one because all of his money goes on watches. Unfortunately that also means that he can't affort dry cleaning or laundry detergent

I have no use for diver watches but am intrigued by the IWC Deep Two. It has functionality that I will never need or use but I love the look. Then again, I think the majority here have a few watches where they utilize only a fraction of its capability.

As for how to buy it, just add a wife tax, mine is usually 10-30% of the price of the watch, and get her a gift at the same time to celebrate something or other. Over the past year I've bought her a nice watch for every 3 I get, sure didn't come cheap but I got all the watches I wanted!

This had to happen ...

One of the reasons I posted a pic w/ my second shirt, that yellow Oxford, the blue striped one is standing in the corner, crying.

Seriously, I do have a huge problem w/ my blue striped shirts I used to buy by the dozen;
EddieBauer dropped that particular fabric, the new ones are rather ugly.

I might end up poor AND shirtless - given my watch spending and rather inflexible tastes.

David, sorry for hijacking your thread, wasn't me !

Damn, wanna trade? I've got two nice watches and so does my wife, both of hers cost more then both of mine, I am doing something wrong. Well done.

For the record I'd gladly take all of Fred's watches and live with only one shirt...heck no shirts. BTW Fred, that is one of the tops amung many killer pieces.

CH-dmath, I give you till June 1st and it is on your wrist. Good luck!

I have been looking at the SOH 42 myself..when I saw it in person it looked a little too dressy for me but I did like it. I had thought the mesh bracelt was cool until seeing it in person, a little too polished for my tatse, I supposed I am more of a "brushed" guy..

It is still on my short list, I am considering the silver dial with black bezel and ocean racer strap with brown leather alternative.

The black dial with green bezel looks sharp too!

I love the look of the SOH 42 but even more the SOHC, especially the white dial and blue or green bezel :lovesloves:
At 46mm the SOHC is just a tad too big for me unfortunately. Another thing is the hour stiletto hand.
If they only made a SOHC in 44 with the hour hand in same style as the minute hand
:superman:

Wes - I think if I try to use that approach with my wife, she'll tell me exactly what the watch is saying to me: "You're sleeping on the couch."

[Actually, my wife is extremely understanding and tolerant. Wife jokes are just so easy but I should probably cool it with our 25th anniversary approaching next month.]

I'm with Fred on this. My fashion sense, if you can call it that, is best described as "neat and clean." If I do better than that on any given day, it's probably by accident. I think it comes from spending almost my entire adult life in academia -- d*mn if I'm going to wear a jacket and tie if I don't have to.

And to clarify, Fred clearly dresses much better than do I -- the only way we're similar is that like him I'd rather spend money on things other than clothes. 8)

This pic has been driving me nuts and had me looking at both the new SOH and the JLC Deepsea Tribute. Cost of the latter being what it is, I need another look at the SOH. Then again, maybe I just need my Headwind back from the spa.
