Mmmmmmmmm! Nothing nicer than years old, used sewage pipes! :|

That was pretty decent of the building inspector to allow you to do what you've done with that pipe, Jim. He could've made your life a right pain if he'd insisted on you moving it.

Oh and as I didn't post before - great job you've done on that wooden floor there! Superb job!

Thanks Driver, I was fully expecting the worst to be honest, just getting this build through building regs has been enough of a chore, seems that if it's not a standard lean-to extension the inspectors get all twitchy.
Thankfully the guy was top notch, keen on seeing it finished and will now be overseeing the site during the rest of the inspections :-)

Hi folks, sorry I haven't updated for a week or so, been rather busy with work. The house is still making good progress and we haven't bumped in to any other nasty surprises, thank god! All things being well we should be moving in the first week of June, so slightly behind schedule (and over budget!) but still 4 weeks ahead of when baby is due.
It's been nice the past week or so to start getting rooms at least looking habitable, most of the upstairs rooms have at least two coats of paint on the walls now, and the prep has been done for the woodwork. Never again will I strip intricate doorframes - what a nightmare, and nitromorse is horrible, horrible stuff.
Anyway, heres a few pics to keep you going

Image
Lounge 1 downstairs with a lick of paint

Image
Start of the brickwork

Image
One of six steel supports needed for the build, two of these will be painted dark grey and form a visible part of the structure from the outside.

Image
On the way up!

Image
All laid up to damp proof course

Image
This is where we are as of today, concrete sub floor down and ready to get those walls built up :-)

Image
The only other thing I've done is remove the existing concrete floor from the old kitchen, it had seen better days so mayaswel get rid.

Hopefully a big update by weeken with plenty of progress again.

Yeah, tell me about it! Brings back memories of jealous neighbors when I renovated my flat. Let them rot in hell:evil:

Evening all, been a busy few days on site since I last posted.
The pillar that will form part of the kitchen island has been constructed, this also acts as a support for the rolled steel joists (which incidentally should be in by the end of the week).
Image

A new party wall has been created and tied to the neighbouring extension, this has also been filled with insulation so the new home cinema won't cause too many complaints from next door ;-)
Image

The back door and previous kitchen window has been taken out and built up to house one of the new windows

Also been busy in the bathroom, now the majority of the really dirty work has been done I can get this finished.

Some of the kitchen stuff is also beginning to arrive :-)
Here's our hob, it's black glass - unusual shape but I love it. Seems to be a practical layout for burners, in theory anyway. Black glass ovens will be arriving tmrw all being well.

Been a very productive week, as you'll see from the pictures!
The bathroom is very nearly finished, put the low level lighting in, these are sunk in to the slate skirting board.

The builders have also been busy, both walls are nearly done now, just about up to parapet level on both courses, the first steel joist has also been hoisted in to position.

Hoping to have the roof framed out and te floor joists in by next weekend, will update with progress :-)

Thanks driver, I think so too. :-)
Quick post today, the rest of the original rear wall of the house came down and now all the steels are in place, ready to get the floor joists in and frame the roof out now.
I'll be doing the 1st fix wiring this weekend and hopefully get the cable in for the planned 5.1 surround system.

Hi all, Quick evening update for you - yet another busy busy week, I've spent it mostly prepping for paint, sanding filling, filling then sanding .... I'm sure a lot of you has experienced the deep, deep joy that brings!
I've also been buying some toys :-)
Amp for the home cinema has arrived and I also bought the speakers to go with, q accoustics q7000 series. Can't wait to get them, went for the white finish so need to wait on them coming in stock.
Image

Also got the doors back from being dipped / stripped, they look great and just need a light sand and an oil and can get them hung again.
Image

The builders have been working at pace too, the roof is constructed
Image

This exposed area will be glazed to allow more light in to the original part of the house
Image

Image

I'll be wiring the extension over the weekend and squeezing some decorating in too with a bit of luck. Pics to follow after the weekend. Enjoy yours whilst I'm slaving away!
