To savetOnight,

Why would you ask such a question on a forum
dedicated to the joy of owning real Breitlings?

I too am a newbie to this forum, but I've been
buying and wearing real Rolexes,Omegas,
Breitlings, Bulovas and Seikos for 40 years.
( I know, I must be pretty old.)

Yet in all that time I've never worn a quartz
or digital watch. Only mechanical. Maybe that's why
I'm so touchy about that sea of fake watches
-- electric or mechanical -- that seems ready to
swallow us up.

To paraphrase a famous saying: The only good
counterfeit watch is a dead one. So let's get out the
sledge hammers and start smashing. If only we could.

I owned a fake Rollie Yachtmaster when I was 16-17 years old. It was an auto--and of course it broke. I recently found it in a drawer and decided to dissect it. It was actually pretty nice too--but a piece of sh*t nevertheless.

You know, that's got me thinking: I could probably pick up a couple broken replica automatics off Ebay to practice my watchmaking skills. Don't even care what they were supposed to "be" when they were made, just a good source of throwaway practice movements perhaps. Hmm...

I found a fake Breitling at a night club last year. I saw the bandless watch on the floor and was saying to myself "damn aren't I lucky". As soon as I picked up the watch I knew it was a fake without even looking at it. I've been meaning to take it out to the shooting range and use it as a target.

Good call. However, the downside is that by buying them you'll be helping those who make and sell them to perpetuate their existence.

Hi, I don't there there are many on here who own fakes - certainly not amongst the regular posters. Those who have tend to have bought them long before they got into the genuine articles ; before they understood what owning the genuine item is all about. I can guarantee you that 99.9% of the regular posters would never entertain buying any kind of replica.[/quote]

I am with driver on this one.

With some high speed photography, it would be sick!

I've known a couple of friends & colleagues with fakies & I picked them straight away(glass lens & weight). The sad thing is you can tell a lot about someone from their shoes & watch. I'm glad I don't find the need to pretend to be someone I'm not. Before my ling, I wore my trusty seiko for 15 years or so, a genuine $100 seiko which still has its place on my desk. Better to be genuine than a pretender in my book. cheers.

I went on a school trip with some of my band kids several years ago to New York. The contest amongst the kids was to see who could buy the WORST Rolex replica. One came back with some horrible, light blue monstrosity that actually said "Bolex" on the dial.

I did have one friend who owned a very nice Cartier. He went and bought a spot-on replica as well, and wore it to work. He was in a line of work...what was the expression from another post...akin to "mixing concrete at a construction site," and didn't want to damage the real deal. My thoughts were always to get some Casio banger to wear at his work site, but he felt that since he owned the real one, he could wear the fake with credibility, I suppose.

For myself I just couldnt bare wearing a replica...

You get what you pay for!!!

Although I have seen some pretty good fakes, why cheat yourself on time?

There are a few things men will never change....IMO its the wallet, watch and belt...

If you have the camera hardware I'll take care of the other hardware. How far would you like us to shoot the watch at? Some video would be cool too.
