My brand new Rolex explorer ii is just over 1 month old, and i have recently been realising a dramatic time gain. I know that rolex's are prone to gain time but how much i don't know. Mine is roughly gaining around 5 seconds a day is this normal, or should i go back to the AD and get it checked out.

Look Forward to your responses.

It is within certified chronometer (COSC) specs - -4/+6 sec/day. It's fine.

And it's only about a month old so it's still settling.

5 seconds a day is 99.994% accurate, not really a "dramatic time gain"

Thanks for your replies. I think it's come as a bit of a shock as my previous Breitling's were so reliable with time keeping.

You can't compare quartz accuracy with automatic accuracy - apples and oranges.

You can possibly take away 5 secs overnight by placing/storing the Rolex vertically with the crown at the bottom.

Never recommended to leave a watch crown down because of the weight on hte crown stem. Vertical position will cause the watch to run slower than horizontal position, but crown up is recommended. In this case the watch is still settling so likely better to maintain consistency until it finds its rate.

Thanks Roff for clarifying that.
