Great Speedy Pro write up and pics.
My Speedmaster Professsional is the watch I would choose if I could only have one from my small herd.

Not certain what its vintage is, but I bought it new from Macy's in the late 80s/early 90s after the one I bought in ~1977 was stolen. I'd never let it go.

Thank you, Carl.

Thanks for posting that, Carl, and congrats. As one who has been in the Speedmaster wilderness for a while (had and sold two of them), I regret it every time I see one. Pretty sure I'll have another moonwatch very soon, and you bet it will be the classic hesalite version. Looked great 40 years ago and will still look great in another 40 years. :D

Great story, iconic watch and a fabulous story behind it. What can one ask more than that?

That is why I always enjoy your posts Carl. Thank you for posting.

Well, almost three weeks since I started this thread, and thanks for all the replies!
A few years, and many, many watches later. My watch craze started with Breitling. A few years ago, although I had seen the Speedy many times, I would never have dreamed it would end up being on my wrist. Now, if you asked me which watch out of all that I have owned would be "the" one, I would not hesitate to say the Speedy. Apart from being a chronograph, it is the simplest watch I have had: mechanical, manual wind movement with a long, successful history, and a hesalite crystal.
I suppose you could also say that it is the watch that will change my life. Deep down, I have always wanted to be a one watch guy. I thought the Rolex Explorer I would do that, but almost as soon as I got it, I continued to look - and buy. Many, many watches.
As it happens, I really do not have the resources any more to spend on watches. I thought for the longest time of getting a nice, gold watch. Since I got the Speedy, that seems less important. I have to say, though, that my next watch - should there be one - will most likely be a gold one.
How fortunate I am to have had the fun and excitement of all the wonderful timepieces. And how wonderful it is to end up, so to speak, with this wonderful Speedy! My list of "likes" about this watch is so long, I won't even get started.
Cheers,
Carl
