Is the rightmost part of the roof not part of your house or didn't they need replacement?

That's the attached property, yes.
Hopefully the colour should match better after a few months weathering. :-)

Well, the roof did get finished, and work on the extension was going to begin until the council put a spanner in the works. All is sorted now though and the foundations are marked out ready to be dug tommorow - thank god! My other half isn't getting any less pregnant so time is if the essence!
I've spent the last two weekends gutting the rear portion of the house and pulling down the outhouse at the back, messy work but great fun too.

I have also managed to perform a few less destructive tasks, the first being cleaning up the original door furniture, they were CAKED in gloss, but after a thorough sanding and a primer coat I'd say they were looking pretty good.

I also stripped and varnished the floor in the front reception room - from this

Updates should be more regular now work is starting on the extension, can't wait to see it begin to take shape!

Thanks! I am doing, here's todays update!

Small update today, the internal walls in the rear portion of the house came down - I'm amazed at how much more spacious it feels already, let alone with the extension done.

Also after a lot of research, thought and "discussions" with the wife, we have finally decided on worktops.
We've settled on quartz, seems to be the best material choice and as a bonus, I think it happens to look as good as it performs. Still trying to haggle the guy on price a little but I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the cost of them (although I couldn't help thinking that I could probably pick up a nice navi for that sort of coin!) Let me know what you think, couldn't resist sneaking one of the collection in that shot ;-)

Plenty more updates to follow this week....I hope!

Just to explain what quartz worktops are for those that may not know, it contains crushed quartz crystals which are compacted and set in a clear or colored resin, leaving a very very dense slab, that whilst it feels cold to the touch like granite is not porous at all so should last a lifetime with very little maintenance.

Today's update is rather bad news I'm afraid. Upon doing the excavation for the foundations it appears that there is a large sewer drain running directly underneath where my build should finish - not good.
You should be able to see it in One of the below pictures. It's not game over by any stretch, but it will of course cost more money, and take more time to sort. Gutted isn't the word :-(

Unfortunately, yes. I shall not be deterred though, I'm made of tougher stuff than to let one setback stop me!

Well today has brought with it much better news thankfully.
We had the building inspector out to assess the drain this morning and it turns out he was entirely reasonable and has presented us with a workaround suitable for both parties.
We have replaced the offending drain with new pipe work, boxed it in and gravel filled as yu will see below. A steel lintel will be placed on top of this to shield the pipe from load, then the foundations will be concreted over the top. THANK GOD

One of the new internal walls has also been constructed today, this will conceal the utility room. Both the below pics are from the same perspective to give you an idea of how things will be. Ignore my brothers sense of humour, placing me in the rendered image!!

Work travel commitments mean that I won't make it to the house until weekend now, so hopefully a sizeable update on Monday. Thanks for all your comments and opinions so far, love that so many of you like it!
