Definitely replacements - they are way too short apart from anything else so from a smaller watch.

Edging a bit closer. Found out today my other hands are too big. :( Have to figure out the proper measurement to search for. Looks like 1.4 & 1mm hole is what I measured, but that's not the right way to search hands. I've got to dig a couple more sets out to see what we've got. Also have to reset the stem and crown to the right setting.

Still trying to figure out just what details to describe when getting the bezel ring insert made. Is the ring flat or does it have a slight angle? I'm guessing at the dimensions; 29mm inside and 31mm outside? Anyone know for sure without taking your watch apart?

I'm having several of the outer dial rings cut this week. I found a local shop that will water jet cut them from brass shim stock. Once they are cut, I'm going to have ID paint a few to see how they turn out. My goal on one is to match the off white faded color as the background before completing with the numbers, etc..

I will keep you guys updated on the progress. If they turn out well, I'll have some extras available. :)

Thank you for the great list!! Now saved in my archives.

I also read somewhere that Landeron 48 hands were the same size(or at least fit) as the V175. Can anyone confirm this? Guess I could trial & error on my spare movement, but my shaky fingers have me worried.

Thought I'd share a little update.

Finally got the bezel number rings done and picked up today. It took a few trial and error attempts to get the OD/ID just right. Seems there are slight differences in tolerance in the bezels. The first pieces cut turned out .004 to small, and they would not hold in the bezel. Also at .020 thickness, they were too big to allow the bezel to set properly to the case.

We went down to .015 thickness and switched to steel for durability. We tuned in the OD and viola. Here's what the bare ring looks like sitting around the dial. I didn't snap it fully in the bezel as it would be hard to remove without damaging it.

I'll send a couple off to get painted tomorrow. Should take a week or two to get them back. Fingers crossed that Intl. Dial can pull these off.

Played around with a couple more rings today; cleaning off burrs and making them paint ready. Just had to put one in the bezel to make sure all was fitting just right.

What a great project. When done, the watch will be all the more special for all of your effort. Looking forward to updates.

By the way, I'm given to understand that no Breitling resto is complete without a blue, pin-striped Oxford shirt.

Ugh - reading this makes me a tad depressed...I found a watch among my father's belongings, and from what I can tell, it's a ref 769 Chronomat, 1946 (serial 646***) with a missing slide rule bezel. It looks like my father (who passed away in 2007) had it repaired with a generic replacement crystal and non-slide rule bezel. It looks exactly lie Saabreit's photo (DSCF4780.JPG) black dial and all, but without the slide rule bezel and retention rings. As I'm hoping to restore the watch (or rather find someone who can do it for me) to give to my brother who's a vintage aviation buff, I'd be interested in either someone who has a bezel and retention ring, or to piggy back on someone who wants to have them fabricated.

I'm new to this, but since I managed to secure my father's 1947 Longines 30CH flyback, I figured I should be nice to my brother and for his 50th b-day give him something from our dad.

Any help appreciated,

Erik

sadly we have these missing bezel 769s quite frequently, but
the answer remains the same - I know of nobody who would
have spare parts available for such repairs, your only chance
will be to find a donor piece.

Thank you for the prompt response - I appreciate it! When I come upon the land of missing 769 slide rule bezels, I will let you know!
