Looking around at all the Breitling vintage watches out there I have come to like the complication/idea of a triple date with the long hand pointing to the day of the month at the extreme edge of the dial. Several variations, but all seem pretty neat to me. They seem to command a decent amount of $$$.

Searching around I have seen a few Wakmann Triple Dats with a Valjoux 703 movement. They seem to go for a lot less. They look pretty cool to me with black face and contrasting white/silver sub dials. Sellers seem to differ in the listing of size from 35.5 to 37.5mm...perhaps a bit smallish, but not bad, especially if they were actually closer to 38.

Wondering why such a big price difference betweent the Wakmann and Breitling watches? I have read a tiny bit of the history, but seems like a rebranded Breitling more or less. What am I missing here? Anyone have one? If so what is the actual size and how do they wear?

there are MANY discussions about these, it is a watch produced by Charles Gigandet, distributed under that name only, co-branded, Wakmann-branded or Vulcain-branded.

This is NOT a Breitling, though one member claimed he had one w/ the Breitling logo on it - definitely and always a Gigandet.

A very, very nice watch w/ one of the most beautiful movements, a little search on this site will show you many more.
Why are these less expensive, well, it is a collectors market, the same movement in a Rolex will cost you a fortune.

here is quite a nice specimen (disclosure, mine )

I guess`the contrast in sizes quoted is because some quote it with the lugs included and some only the watch face, which is the right size to quote. Also, since the bezel on these triple date watches is thin they will wear much bigger than you would think even though they have a smaller diameter.

Not quite.
There are several versions, the earlier ones in stainless steel, are smaller, and the later ones in plated (chrome) metal are bigger.
At least as far as I know.
The same goes for the movement, usually the earlier ones have 72C, the later ones 730.
And, the date hand in the earlier ones is usually like a half moon, whereas the later ones have an open spare.

In this thread there is some information about the sizes:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15645&hilit=gigandet+datora&start=45
For the Wakmanns this seems to be the case regarding the reference numbers:
73.1307.70 stands for 35 mm diameter
xx.1309.xx stands for 37 mm diameter
xx.1311.xx stands for 40 mm diameter

But there are several threads here which have very good, detailed information!

All the best, I also love these watches and I am still looking for "the one" to buy!
So I can really understand you ;-)
If someone is looking into selling his Wakmann triple date chrono (especially the black/white stainless steel version) , I am open for offers! :-))
