There seems to be a fair number of Planet Ocean past and present owners around here. What do you make of this?

I have a brand new AD purchased PO XL that I got on February 6th. Love the look/feel, but it just seemed to slow/stop anytime I took it off for longer than just over night. Even wearing back to back days and just off over night it would be a lot more off than my Breitling which seems to be spot on after a month on and off the wrist with zero winding.

So I did a little test. Yesterday I set the PO at exactly 8:30 AM, wound it 30 or so times and strapped it on. Took it off around 5:00 PM, put it back on this morning around 7:30AM. Just happened to give it a look at what the watch said was 12:45 and it was 22 minutes slow.

WTF? You wind the PO clockwise right? The power reserver on the PO is around 40 hours right? About the same as my Breitling. I have taken the Breitling off Saturday mid day to do some yard work and not put it on till Monday morning with zero winding and it is still right on time.

Problems with the PO or is it something I have not thought of? Original model with 2500 movement not the new 8500.

What do you make of this? Starting to fall out of love with my orange bezeled beauty.

I don't know....I had a Baume & Mercier the same way. Very annoying....It's the watch, not you.
Take it back...It has a problem I think. :geekfuman:

Every once and a while my Hamilton (which runs at about +2/3 sec/day and nowhere near the quality of a PO) randomly loses about a half hour, when I'm wearing it to boot. It's done it twice to me since purchasing it second hand in January. I find it annoying. but works perfectly otherwise. I can't imagine doing it on a daily basis. It's definitely not you. Send it in for service... it'll be covered under warranty right? then you'll get it back and fall in love with it all over again..

The problem with your Planet Ocean is what we call in technical terms as Hooped , I recommend a visit to your AD for a replacement or servicing. ( Hooped only a tecnical term in middle Canada)

It could be any number of issues in the running train, but certainly an issue that requires watchmaker attention - just make sure that you describe the symptoms.

Anything I could have done? I don't treat it any differently than my SteelFish. Never change the date "quickly" always move the hands forward. Wind it (clockwise) if it has been off the wrist for a few days. Lay it down on its side with crown up. That is about it.

No, from what you describe I find it hard to think it was anything you did.

My PO was spot on every day. The power reserve is over 42 hours so I agree wih the others, it needs servicing.

Sorry about your problems. I had my 2500 PO for almost 3 years, up until I sold it last week to fund the 8500 which is coming tomorrow. I never had any issues with it. As a matter of fact, I was always impressed with its power reserve compared to my Breitlings. It seemed to last longer than the 42 hour reserve. Even after 2 off days, it ran accurately the 3rd morning.

The only difference between what you and I did was that I used to wind it more. 30 revolutions is not enough for full reserve. I used to wind it near my ear until I heard the clicking sound indicating it was fully wound. I'd usually wear it for 14-16 hours a day and off for 8 or so. I'd do this the whole week for example and could take it off Saturday and Sunday and it'd still be running Monday morning. If it was still running I wouldn't wind it anymore and it was fine going forward. If it stopped I'd just wind it as described above. Give it a try. I hope it works for you.

I'm sorry to hear of your problems. 30 turns might be too few. Before sending it to Omega or relinquishing it to an AD, I would wind it until you can hear the mainspring "click over" in the barrel. The PO (2824) movement actually runs at 25,200 bph with an increased amplitude (~310 degrees IIRC) to improve accuracy as opposed to the standard 28,800 bph (4Hz). With those changes you should expect a power reserve of around 50 hours or so.

I've been interested in the changes that make up the cal. 2500-D but, I've yet to find anything substantial beyond the font change on the date wheel. I do wish you the best of luck.

What Baltimore AD are you using?

Budlum24, I read some other PO posts (Time Zone Omega forum I think) about winding it a lot more. So yesterday I wound it and wound it and wound it....you get the idea. Had it up to my ear, not really sure what to listen for, but I think I heard a different clicking noise. Next I set it in the case face up and will wait two day from Thrusday at 6:30 PM to see where it was. As of this morning with zero movement it was dead on with my SteelFish. Hoping it is OK, but seems to be running slow quite a bit in the month I have had it. I wear it probably 5-6 days a week so it has to be getting plenty of movement on the rotor.

As for the AD I bought my SteelFish and Cartier from Radcliff in Pikesville, not the mall. The mall staff are up tight d!cks...IMHO. The Pikesville store is great. I got my Omega and a Colt 44 from George at Govberg in Philly. George is one class act. Can't say enought good things about him.

I am in norther Harford County (Purgetory) so the western side of Baltimore or Philly is not much difference it distance. Where you located? BTW see you sig. I dig the steelfish GMT...nice!

That depends on what you do while you wear it.

If your other watches are doing fine, the issue with the PO is not related to your activity level. Get it back for replacement or repair. What you are describing isn't close to ok. Every Omega I've oowned has run spot frigging on and had more than enough power reserve for my sedentary lifestyle.

This is a CLEAR no-brainer - take it back and see what the AD will do.

It might be, but the latest report is that, following a thorough winding, it's keeping time...so far. If it continues to keep time with his other watches, maybe that's all there was to it. If it starts losing time again within the standard power reserve window, then there would certainly seem to be a problem that needs checking out. All I was saying was that he shouldn't automatically assume that just because he's wearing it every day, it's staying fully wound, especially if he didn't wind it fully enough to begin with.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I wasn't responding to you post JS. But I'm glad to hear it seems to be holding.
