Now that I have watched the video, I have a few questions:

(1) How is a series of obviously staged reenactments of the watch's design the "story" of the DeepSea Challenge?

(2) How do the marketers at Rolex actually not feel embarrassed when the music swells to absurd levels at the end of the video? And, do they actually think anybody will be persuaded by such ridiculous tactics, rather than bust out laughing over how silly it all is?

12000m and they still can't colour match a date wheel.

What a gong show.

I love the theatre of it. It's so far out there that it's actually cool. It's the first Rolex I've ever seen Roff like.

Still not watched the video - will do later - so will this actually be made as a production piece??? I assumed it was a one-off for a stunt or something.

It's a hell of a lot more usable in terms of size, and MUCH nicer looking, than the CX Swiss Military 20000 ft. I quite like it.

LOL.. It's my favorite part of the watch. It reminds me of the classics.

Funny, my initial impression looking at a pic of the overall watch was it looked like a new diver coming from one of the under $1000 micro-brands.

Kind of surprised at the responses here... Clearly it is a technical exercise, like the BP X-Fathoms. I give Rolex a lot of credit for their recent innovations, Skydweller included, from a company that changes direction at a tectonic level.

I haven't seen the movie yet but my first impression was how thick it was. I'm undecided still but leaning towards the 'it's okay' category. Certainly a better size although I agree that it's really unneccessary to have a water resistance that is absurb for anything but whatever it is that actually lives that deep in the ocean; not that that's the point mind you

Not sure that there is ever going to be a production version of this - the Rolex site describes it as "Experimental"
