I'm torn as I really like the looks and style of the Slate Grey Big Date Cockpit, but do not like the redesign. Most likely I will have to buy used or from grey market dealer since I still need to save around another 1k. So here is my dilemma:

Do I forget about the cockpit and go for a used headwind for around 2k(plus around $500 for service) or do I stick with saving for the bigdate cockpit in hopes that I can find one when I finally have enough cash?

I've never seen a Headwind in person so I would really like to hear from somebody that either owns or owned both. I know Admin has had both and sold both. Which do you prefer as a dress watch and why? Which has better Lume? Thanks in advance :)

I'm a newby here but I personally love the big date cockpit. I agree the slate dial is awesome and the size is right in the middle of the Breitling lineup.

Good luck with your decision!

I've gone for Headwind as it's got a very beautiful dial in the flesh and it's a bit bigger. (I like the bigger Breitlings myself)

I'd also go for the Headwind, for the same reasons Driver mentioned but also that I like the day display.

I have to go Cockpit. I have a black dial cockpit, and I love the flexibility it offers - is equally at home with jeans or a suit. The lume is also very good.

I've owned both these models and now both are sold.. I voted for the Slate Grey cockpit, especially as a secondary watch to a sportier Breitling. The Headwind is a chunkier looking watch, and as many Breitling guys here that have owned some of the older models can attest, has a slightly more straight or angular look to it when worn on the wrist. It isn't so much a matter of size as it is a matter of "fit" to me. The Headwind has a different case style that is more angular and less fluid.

I love the headwind and it has a fantastic dial.. with a look that screams day-date killer, however, the Cockpit wins me over with the grey dial in that it has a holographic look to it, and has a slimmer more sleeker profile. Unless the watch is intended to impose and impress, I would select the Cockpit. If you want something more imposing with an edgier look, I would get the headwind, especially if you have a smaller wrist.

I voted for Cockpit for the exactly same reason with you.
