Check out the comments in this thread by the US President of JLC. This is exactly why you should exercise caution when asking strangers online for their opinion on a watch.....opinions 'on a certain site' are all geared to make you moist for a watch.

It seems like the audience for Jaeger-LeCoultre is growing. Is it specifically the cohesiveness of the line?

US President of Jaeger-LeCoultre, Philippe Bonay:
We’re seeing a rise in advocacy for the brand. More people recommending them to others, especially in the discussion forums.

Yes, in case you didnt know , in the Vintage section we're being compensated by Breitling for each piece sold that was manufactured at least 30 or more years ago and in the 'Breitling discussion' section people are being compensated to not speak their mind about the new releases :D

Some brands pay large amounts of money to sponsor forums. JLC is a forum sponsor on a certain popular board, a big congratulatory post was done then mysteriously it was deleted. That's why any negative comments about the brand are either deleted or the posts are edited. It's big business. Ask the forum mod about any JLC and you'll get a glowing eloquent review about how amazing the watch is even if it's the ugliest thing one earth. That's one great thing about Roff and Driver, they don't blow smoke about Every Breitling being the greatest watch in the world.

FWIW.....

Monsieur Bonay was fired as head of BUSA after about 12 months.

I see no problems with forums doing things like this to attract users - after all they cost a lot to run and sponsors are attracted based on the size of the community that they can reach. However, it has to be done with absolute transparency. All members have to know what is happening, even if they are brand new to the community.

Let's face it there will always be those people as part of any community who are extremely :cheer: about everything - we have them here (and not just about Breitlings, or even watches), but when we start venturing into 'advertorial' or it drives the 'censorship' (I use the word advisedly) of the forum, then all credibility is lost in my mind.

Bingo, you hit the nail on the head. Absolute Transparency; that doesn't always occur on some forums. If you want to use the forum as a place to advertise your products go for it, but when users don't know that, and any/all criticism is edit or deleted, it's not really fair.

Totally agree that Roff and Driver are the most unbiased mods I have seen on any forum, and that is what makes this place great. It may not have the volume of members that some other sites have, but this is a place you can come and honestly voice your opinion without fear of being banned.

As far as the other site you are referring to...I just don't have the stomach to go there anymore. I love the "idea" that you can go to one forum and learn/share about a multitude of brands...but the truth is that it's nothing short of a love fest. If someone voices an opinion that does not promote or elevate the brand then it is not welcome. I have no desire to be a member of a place where they are just looking for "yes" men.

Not to knock either Roff or Driver, but given the state of current Breitling offerings, who'd believe them anyway?

The CEO is pretty short.

I don't see anything wrong with the TZ interview since there is obviously full disclosure.

The Facilitator can't ban people - although he can sue them.
