Hi guys, just need your input on finding a vintage Breitling moonphase tricompax, maybe for later in the year since I have some nice watches to enjoy over the coming months. Which moonphase models are good to look for ( I prefer the tricompax with the moonphase and pref 40's) and do you know of any that are easily available since I don't see any for sale, let me correct that, I don't see any genuine ones for sale. Am come to the point where I might have to go with a new non vintage Perpetual or annual moonphase from one of the nice current brands if I don't come across a genuine vintage one which am fine with being non perpetual or an annual calendar. Any tips from your experience seeing them for sale if patience can net me a genuine one or is best I stick with a brand new one for the moonphases, esp since I need to be a werewolf;) soon!

Just buy yourself a copy of Richter and see which ones you like and then keep an eye out for them, posting them here before committing money.

And learn more patience so that you don't spend way too much money on the first vaguely distant one that comes along!!!

chances are you'll have to wait 10-15 years for one to show up or 1 could pop-up tomorrow
have a search on the 805 on Google and see how many different ones are for sale

The only ones I see on Google are the terrible fakes we know of:(...does anyone have a picture of a real 805 from someones collection?
Looks like I will have to be happy with pictures of these in the meanwhile:)

If I were to choose between PP , JLC or Breguet the JLC would be on the bottom of that list with PP on top , even though the Breguet maybe looks nicer I am a sucker for PP.. some day I will own one (I hope)

The issue with PP is a true "Perpetual" calendar will be way over budget, the 5146 is an entry level date/moonphase complication with a "Annual" calendar for 30k+ and the fear is it will keep me wanting the real deal Perpetual if I have it:), is beautiful nevertheless with an assured resale value and this one in gold is what I would choose if went that route with the 5146. Love the looks and technical prowess of the JLC though and the Breguet too which have it all and won't keep one wanting.

cruvon, that "shortlist" is a list of 1 item, i.e. the 805 only ?

Good luck hunting for this, makes rather little sense; sit back, wait, as Rene said, an affordable one might just pop up somewhere, today or in 5 years from now.

Problem with these is that they are just not documented well enough, we even do not know for sure which versions were really manufactured, as the 46 catalogue seems unclear here.

We saw a single Moonphase chrono here that all of us considered to be correct and felt totally comfortable with, all other raised an eyebrow or two at least.

Thanks Fred, wanted something that matches the rose gold 785 and the 805 is the closest fit with square pushers, by the ads atleast. True is almost unattainable I guess becuase there are no known examples of completely correct ones on the internet atleast.

What's the rush?

Did you not learn anything from rushing out to buy the last one for too much money only to find flaws after you committed?

Buy the book, read the book, learn about new models, relax. Check the auction houses, check Chrono24, check eBay, come here and see what other people find. Something will turn up, you don't have to find it this week or buy the first thing that comes along!
