Hi All ! :(

Due to the fact 2012 is the 50th anniversary since Scott Carpenter's historic orbit around earth wearing his Breitling Cosmonaute; I was expecting a new Cosmonaute paying homage to such a moment in time.

I was expecting a manual wind 24 hour dial, no date, flyback function, with a display back -preferably with an in-house movement - guess not !!!

What a waste of the "Art of the Possibility" and marketing potential - 50th Anniversary only comes once !!!

Or am I just crazy?

Cheers,

Enezdez

Realistically, how many people know who Scott Carpenter is?

How many people know, or care, what watch he was wearing?

That has to be a tiny market share.

How many of the other original Mercury Seven have watches marketed using their name?

Never heard of him. I have worked with a Mike Carpenter, maybe they are related.

I'm with the OP. Watch companies generally love this kind of thing. Tag and Omega are constantly bringing out special editions of of the Monaco and Speedmaster. Given Breitling's love of the LE I'm amazed they're not flogging this for all it's worth, regardless of how well Scott Carpenter is known.

I think there are quite a few Breitling fans/pilots that know the Scott Carpenter history. Don't know why Breitling couldn't do a special Cosmonaute, Omega just did a 50th for W. Schirra/Mercury with a Speedmaster edition. Guessing the Cosmonaute isn't a big enough seller (?) or didn't have a movement in the plans. Would have made for some good marketing anyway.

Among the die hard Breitling fans it is safe to say plenty know who Scott Carpenter is. An anniversary LE would be an easy sale IMO.

Absolutely, and to be honest I don't know how anyone with even a passing interest in aviation/space exploration couldn't have heard of him or the rest of the Mercury 7.

He was (and still is) quite an amzing guy with his Naval test pilot, astronaut and SEALAB exploits. Any one of those would've been enough for most people, let alone all three!

A new Scott Carpenter LE (on the right watch of course) would sell like hot-cakes IMO.

(Oh and talking of crushed expectations, I was hoping for that long-hoped-for in-house Navi World to appear. Oh well, there's always next year I guess...... or the one after..... or the one after that....... )

They completely ignored the 40th anniversary of the first automatic chronograph so not remotely surprised that they ignored this. Disappointing, but not surprising.

Hi everyone!

My first post here (been reading for quite some time - great forum btw).

I thought I might grab the opportunity and break some good news:
Breitling seems not to have forgotten about that anniversary - according to Jean Paul Girardin (Breitling COO), they are planning to come out with a handwound in-house 24h Navitimer Cosmonaute Scott Sarpenter LE in May.

Here's the link to the interview (in German):
http://www.watch-insider.com/im-intervi ... breitling/ (the important part starts at 5:20 min)

Cheers,
Chris

nice to see they did not forget the anniversary, though it would be nice to hear more, is it B01 ?
Frankly quite underwhelmed by the caseback.
