Before I took better care of my watches, I've worn GMTII, Omega Speedmaster, Breitling Colt GMT, Seiko SKX007J, and a Citizen diver (forgot the cal.) in the warm Pacific of Hawai'i. Each in rough surf and while snorkeling.
I've since purchased an $150 Invicta ProDiver 500m that wouldn't stress me out if my arm and watch got chewed off by a shark. Or, if the water resistance failed.
Well, I'd be stressed about my arm.

Your source about shallow water may be right if he is thinking about the centrifugal motion of your arm while swimming or horsing around. The force of your arm movement in the water creates pressure against the seals.
But, I've never had any moisture issues.
Remember to always rinse in fresh water after salt water exposure.

Still looking and debating with myself. I appreciate, and took in all the inputs you all provided. They gave me plenty of ideas. There are plenty of ones out there I really like, but each one has a little something I don't like. So, for the moment I'm just researching and saving. Front runner is Explorer II, polar white. Can't wait to see what comes out from Basel this month! Its this month right???
