Well, I haven't been around the forum for a while, or any other for that matter.
This updated Seamaster 300M has only fairly recently started to show up in ADs. I haven't seen any reviews or owner pics of the 36mm midsize yet, so thought I would have a go.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, I found myself longing to look at Omegas. I had sold the three I had, over a year ago now, and really missed the Seamaster the most. I haven't really been up on any of the new models, so went to the local boutique, and what I discovered was stunning!
The latest update on the Seamaster 300M includes a ceramic bezel and a lacquered/polished dial. It is so beautiful, that I got it right away. To me, it is one of the most beautifully finished watches I have seen. I had seen the Planet Ocean Liquid Metal LE over a year ago, and was most impressed. At the time, I just didn't have the funds or I probably would have bought it even though it is large for me.

Never thought I would go back to Omega. But that's another story.
The updates in the new model are numerous: ceramic bezel, lacquered dial, updated 2500D movement (The "D" signifies the lates) changes to the coaxial function, screw and pin bracelet (there is a tiny screw at either end of the link, which hold the pin in. The theory is that if one screw comes loose, the friction of the pin holding the link to the rest of the bracelet, should be strong enough to keep the bracelet together). I believe the applied/raised logo and "OMEGA" name is new as well.
Omega has done a fantastic job on this watch! Not unlike the Planet Ocean. One of the reasons it does not have the new inhouse caliber 8500, is that it would be necessary to make the case wider on both the 36mm and 41mm models. I am pretty sure that even with the midsize 36mm model, the new movement would be too large anyway. I believe the "Ladies" 37mm Planet Ocean does have the new movement, though.
I purchased a new Calibre de Cartier about six months ago. I am finding it just too large at 42mm, in spite of how well it fits my wrist. So, I am selling it. And the reason behind that is so I can get another Seamaster 300M, but with the blue bezel and dial. I am that impressed with this watch. I am just as impressed by the fact that Omega continues to offer this beautiful diver/sports watch in the midsize. It is very rare indeed these days to find many watches at that size, let alone a sport/diver watch.
My other watch right now is a 36mm Rolex Explorer I, which I will never part with. I do have to admit, however, the quality and detail on the Omega Seamaster is better. The brushed satin finish on the Omega is up to Cartier standard, which I have thought is the best. I looked at other Rolex models, the Submariner Date and No Date, and the new Explorer II. All beautiful, but when I saw this Omega - and this size - to me, there is no comparison.
The 2500D movement is so totally revamped (ETA 2892) by Omega, and now updated yet again. I have only worn it a couple of times, and it is about +5 sec/day fast right now. I am sure it will settle in as I wear it some more.

Got it from the Omega Boutique at the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel. I looked at a few ADs, but they didn't have the ceramic bezel models yet, except one which had the larger 41mm model. I prefer the smaller midsize. The Boutique is a great place to see just about any model you wish. They have most models, including a number of Limited Editions. They also get everything that comes out, before the ADs.
I don't think it will be long before the ADs get more of them, though.

Not big on Omega, but that is a stunner! I'd wear it! I'm not a fan of the hands, but LOVE everything else. Nice pickup!

I think that is the best SMP Omega has yet made, although my eye is on the 41mm. Thank you very much for posting such extensive pictures, and congrats on the pick-up.

The previous SMP did have the co-axial 2500 movement, so I think the "D" must indicate something other than the upgrade to co-axial function. Some have speculated it represents an upgrade to a silicon balance spring, although I have not seen that confirmed anywhere. Do you know if the movement has the silicon spring? (It should have a four-year warranty, if it does.) Personally, I'm just as glad they didn't upgrade to the 8500 for this model. It would have added to the price and the chunkiness of the watch, without doing much in terms of function. As it is, the current SMP is chunkier than the original, non-co-axial models (13mm current thickness, as opposed to 11.5mm originally*), and I think any greater thickness would really start to mess up its proportions. It's great to see a company make just the right tweaks to perfect the model, without making any that detract. This one's a winner.

*Referring to the 41mm - don't know what thickness is on the mid-size.

BTW, in case anybody's interested, Omega is now showing the 50th Anniversary Bond SMP. Meh...I think I'll pass.

You are right. The reason they didn't put the 8500 movement in this new SMP, is so they wouldn't have to increase the thickness of the case. The midsize I have is 36.25mm. Although I have an pretty average size wrist, 7.25in, I really like the fit of the smaller case.
No new silicon balance spring, as far as I know. I have looked at a few different sites, and apparently not. Mine does have a 3 year warranty, though, which I guess is standard?
It really is nice to see that Omega has done such a great job on the updates. Another point very much in their favour IMO, is that they continue to keep the midsize model.

Nice watch. Wear it in good health. I am not an Omega fan because to me, they all look the same. Years have gone by and they still look like they did 10 years ago. Yeah new dials, different materials, etc., but essentially, to me, the same watch. Maybe that's the appeal to Omega lovers? I really don't get it...but I guess that's the beauty of the phrase "to each their own."

I am not hating on Omega, just pointing out my view.
