Congrats, can we see some real life pics when you get the chance? Be interested to see the blue. Probably won't see one at an AD around here for another month or so.
Thanks.

Waiting on the Blue OR strap and brushed push button clasp. Don't have the watch in hand just yet. I'll be sure and post pix...maybe even before I give it to the wife.

When do you all think the best moment to spring it on her? In flight so she has something to play with for 3 hours? Before we leave? Once we get to our destination?

My plan is to size the OR close, but big based on her other watch and snug it down from there...would like to wait till the trip is in progress as there is no way she is expecting this...but don't want to end up on vacation with no way to cut the rubber. Anyone know if you can take a pocket knife in checked luggage :?: Guess I'll have to take my springbar tool along as well. Vacation is getting more complicated by the minute. :?

How about her finding it set up, when she goes to put it on after getting up, or getting out of the shower?

Not a bad idea, we are leaving so early in the morning I am sure it will be a rush. It would not surpirse me if she didn't even go for her watch and forgot it all together. Now that I think of it her current watch is pretty new and she is taking darn good care of it. She might put up a fight about even taking it on vacation. We are just going 4-5 day quick trip to all inclusive beach spot. I could see her easily saying I'm not going to wear it at the pool/beach so why even take it along.

I do however like the idea of going to find "your" watch and a different one being there. Nice!

Don't forget to report back on what you do, and how it works out.

So the AD got the strap/deployant in to go with the new colt 44. Called him with the CC info today and I should have it tomorrow. This is what I have come up with as a surpirse.

I have a small, round, Breitling travel case that my SF came with. I assume I'll get one just like it with the Colt. I plan to tell her at security give me your Cartier since it is nicer than my SF I'll put it in this case till we get through security and carry it in my bag. My poor SF will just go in the tote with all the other junk, saving her precious hunk of metal from scratches. When she asks for her watch back, I'll pull out the Colt in the other travel case and just let her open it up. I imagine she will be a bit puzzled at first.

She has already asked me if the room will have a safe. She thinks she wants to have the Cartier for evenings, but says she does not want to wear it to the pool/beach even if is waterproof. She even went so far as to say maybe she needs a beach watch some day. :D

How do you think that will work?

If anyone cares I am back and the surprise was a huge success. I managed to put the Colt in its travel case and convinced her to give me her Cartier to put in "my" case for safe passage through security. She actually accused me of being nuts...why can't I just put it on top of my jacket or in my shoe she protested...but relented. After security it was off for a couple of bloody marys. Half way through the first one I asked if she wanted it back. Dug to the bottom of my bad and pulled out the colt. She opened it and said this is your watch...major mistake on my part to put the blue ocean racer strap on my blue faced SF. I held up my wrist so she could see mine and she just looked in amazement with her mouth literally open. I had written a little note inside...she started to cry just a bit. Priceless!

After another drink and on our way to the gate she said I can't believe you got me another watch and nothing for you. I stopped and pulled out the Planet Ocean. She roared with laughter and said I figured. She totally loves it, wore it in the pool and to the beach. Did not baby it at all. Says it is perfect and she loves the clasp. I should have gone with the brushed clasp on my SF over the polished. Looks way better. Besides mine is just about "brushed" by now.

The 12, 6 and 9 numbers might just be the best part of the watch. They are chunky, brilliantly polished, super easy to read, and really pop. I can see you not liking it as a "colt" watch, but as its own watch independent of the colt name, you sure could do worse.

She is totally hooked now that she has a second watch. Movies, out to dinner, TV you name it she is saying check out that watch, look at that, what is that, etc. Waiting in customs she even gave me the elbow to the ribs, pointed to a woman in front of us with a Tag and rolled her eyes. I said come on now, be nice

I am going on record right now as saying my next watch will come from her not me...maybe even before my birthday in November. I am an avid cyclist, work out junkie, and home brewer all over the top to the point that she thinks I have a problem. I heard her tell her tell her friend this weekend I really like Rich's latest obsession....WATCHES! :cheer:

I like the fact that it will keep the time for 8 years without my intervention, and it seems to be able to take some abuse.
And the bracelet seems to be new too, it really matches the watch!

I looked at the new Colt last week, but it seemed to me the magic was not there with this one and the bracelet looked as if belonged to another watch. That said I like the dial and the new style bezel.

Agree a bit on the bracelet. I like it a lot more on the OR rubber strap. When I first saw it on the web site I thought the bezel looked a bit Tag-like, don't feel that way after seeing it and wearing it. I think Breitling really got it right on the balance of the thickness (being in the thinner side) and the bezel/case size. If it were an automatic, I think I would own a white one.
