Im sorry to open the flood gates on this very loaded question but can someone give me some quick cliff notes on all the different model number and what they mean. I really cant keep track of all the different numbers. Im assuming that they mean differetn sizes and if the are auto or self winding.

Also what is a real nice Pam for around 4k?

Thanks.

I did try researching it but its very spread out on the net

AFAIK, the model numbers dont mean anything. Just figure out what features and size you want (e.g. 44mm, Luminor, display back, automatic, no date, no seconds, sandwich dial, steel, in-house etc.), and then some people can help you narrow it down from there.

The main distinctions are The model lines: Radiomir (the ones with the little diamond looking crown), Luminor (the ones with the large crown guard), and Submersible (looks like a Luminor but has a dive bezel on it).

That pretty much nails it. To go a little further, on the Luminor side, there is also the 1950 case vs the Historic case. IMHO the best PAM does not exist yet: 8 or 10 day manual wind, in house, date, power reserve indicator on back, display back, Historic case, black sandwich dial, perhaps gold hands and patina lume dial.

They make one CLOSE. New model. I think 422. 47mm 1950 historic, 3 day in house manual, display back with power reserve. Sandwich, gold hands, patina etc. everything you specified but 3 day not 8

A 4 grand Pan , here's what you do .... go to the gun shop ,get a gun . then go to your local outdoor store and buy a balaclava. Now before you do any thing crazy don't. My Pan was $ 17,000.00 . I still have a hard time seeing the Value in it . For gods sake I have to hand wind it ? Whats up with that ?

Thanks a lot for all the info. I was up late last night doing done research. I think I'm gonna look for either a 312,320 or maybe a 233. Yes my budget will need to go up and almost double to get a 233 but well see. Now the search starts. I was honna buy a B&R so I think I will cancel that and get the Pam instead.

If you can make do with an automatic, the 312 might turn out to be a more reasonable choice. It is a properly pretty watch that. Almost like mine except for the dial and the not being made from Ti

Your choices are VERY interesting, as they're the same three Panerai's that I like. I will say that if you haven't seen a 233 in person, you should. The crystal is extremely domed and I personally didn't care for it much. However, it wears a little smaller than the 320 or 312. I love the manual wind feature of the 233, but given it's odd crystal and the much higher price, the 320 is the PAM for me.

I agree the domed did turn me off a bit I like the flat crystal. Also not sure if I need the 8 day calendar. I'm thinking the 320 as well.

Hi guys, i'm kind of in the market of purchasing a pan as well. But ALOT of them look the same to me. I'm kinda new to the watch world so alot of the "in house" and what not is kinda jibberish to me. The Pam 001 looks like the Pam 111 which looks like the Pam 320 (with a date) and about $2000 difference!! There is no big difference in the models like comparing a SA with a Navi World.

I really like the style of a panerai. So would it be fine settling with a Pam 000 or Pam 111? I would hate to spend that extra cash on say a Pam 320 when they look pretty similar..

thanks guys
