I've wanted a breitling for years and finally got one! After years of waiting I finally got my airwolf. I found the exact watch I wanted at a breitling retailer about an hour away. Drive down and picked it up. I got home, took it out the box and was messing around with the settings, setting the time and such. The digital read outs started blinking and the backlight wouldn't come on, I know from experience with dad's aerospace that it needed a battery. I called the store and drove back. They said they'd have to send it back to breitling and it'll take 4-6 weeks for me to get my watch back.

And at that point I would return the watch ask for a refund and wonder why you did not test it before leaving the store first. I guess what I'm saying is how old is the watch they sold you and why you did not get a deep discount for it say 35 % . Or did you ?

I got a great deal on it, which is what stopped me from returning it for a refund. I tested it at the store. No flashing display. I just never really heard of it taking that long if its just the battery that needs replacement

A moment of reflection - the batteries have an approximate life of 2 years. It would not be uncommon at all for a watch to be on the shelf two years or more from production. Breitling uses the same quality batteries as everyone else with quartz so the issue isnt Breitling. The issue is you AD! They won't replace the battery? Seriously??!!! There is no reason it needs to go to Breitling for that. Find a different AD or talk to someone up the chain at your AD.

If you're happy with the piece, then just have a local watch maker swap out the batteries for $10.

A novice watch buyer might not think to do that. It's the AD's job to make sure the watch is in proper condition when it leaves the store, or, at the very least, to know the best way to remedy a situation in case something slips through the cracks. This AD is clearly not on top of things.

Like I said it's my first Breitling. I've had watches before and always loved them, but never something as high end as a Breitling. It didn't cross my mind once at the store, I mean I checked for the usual stuff, scuffs, scratches.. etc. I know the Airwolf has been discontinued since '09 and that only really hit me when I found out the batter was dead at home. I guess I was way over excited when I picked it up. I got an amazing deal on it and even more of a discount when I took it back. The watch is back at Breitling. I waited 5 years to finally get it, I guess I can wait a few more weeks.

Well said mate. No matter how experienced you are and if you are a (Breitling) watch lover that rush of adrenalin with an elevated heart beat, hot flushes, heavy breathing, etc... will always be there when you are holding it in your hands (the watch gentlemen, the watch :uplaugh: ) knowing well that it will be yours soon.
Not surprised you forgot to check the battery status. That is exactly how I ended up walking out from an AD with an auto model and a quartz model manual in the box.
The battery replacement will not cost you anything and you ended up with more discount. As you said, you waited 5 years, you can wait 5 more weeks.
I can assure you it will be veeeeery loooong 5 weeks
Good on ya mate, I hope it serves you well for many, many years to come.
:lingsrock:

Cheers,

Wessa

Exactly. It should be the rule. But how many really do?

Wow, I would be sooooooo p****d off if that had just happened to me. But, you did get a good deal on it which is not much consolation I know. If it were me? Never use the same AD again and warn all of your friends - that stinks.

Please let us know when you get it back and PICS please - I am slightly biased towards Airwolf's :D .

But :lingsrock: , oh yes they do:).
