Thank you, I appreciate the response. I don't have the tools to pull off the band, I'll have a jeweler do it for me. I really love this watch and I like to wear my watches, that being said I have to get used to wearing such a heavy watch.

Yeah I bet it's a weighty beast! :) The standard Motors is heavy enough. You've got a great watch there though - enjoy it in good health.

It was an error and meant for someone else, not this seller. If you look at the feedback right below it as well as the feedback left by the seller you will see that the transaction was flawless. I have contacted Ebay to have it removed, I felt terrible about it, it was a mistake.

Could anyone talk to this watch, was what I paid fair for the watch a fair price? Is there a way to tell the year of a Breitling?

If it's in mint condition like you say (and is genuine, obviously!) then if you paid $16k, that's a fantastic price for a solid gold model on the bracelet. (Although you have to remember I am in the UK and our prices are very high).

In terms of age, remove the bracelet and between the lugs at one end (if memory serves I think it's the 6 end) you will see a 4 digit number - for example 2407. In this case the 24 means that it was made during the 24th week of the year and the year is 07.

It is between the bottom lugs.

You can also have the AD call Breitling and they can confirm both the year and where the watch was first sold based on the serial number. Serials are non sequential after 1978 so it's not possible to age them just from that. Breitling will generally only provide the info to an AD.

Is it possible on this watch that the date is on the band? Is it a fact that all Breitlings have the date between the bottum where the band is attached?

There is a date on the bracelet, same format as the watch - two digits for the week, two for the year, but that's the date of the bracelet, not necessarily the watch.

All modern (the last 5 years or so) Breitlings have the date between the lugs.

On a watch like that - an AD!!!

Unless you want to run significant risk of scratching it you need a proper bracelet removal tool that will compress the sping bars. The easiest thing is just get an AD to do it, far less risk of damage.

That's a far better way of saying "between the lugs at the 6 end" like I did!

Yes, I'd too strongly advice an AD for any bracelet removal action on a solid gold watch.
