A few years ago I bought a Pelican case for transporting my camera equipment, I recently changed up some of my gear so I had to order replacement foam to customize the insides and ended up with a pretty big chunk of unused foam left over, I chanced on an old unused wood keepsake box in my attic and one thing led to another. Very happy with my new set up, all Panerais in the custom box and my non Panerai collection in my 20 count.

Here is the exterior:

And the interior:

Those strap inserts are deep and hold up to eight straps on top of each other. Cool thing about this set up, other than being dirt cheap, is that it can be customized however you want it to hold your particular collection and combination of straps/tools/watches.

I just happened to have the stuff lying around so it was free, but here is what I estimate it would cost you:

Wood box: flea market or any run of the mill home decor store: 20 USD

Pelican style foam, 10 USD

Watch cushions: free if you ask your watch dealer (watches come back from servicing in similar stuff) or just use the spare foam you cut out. Otherwise buy em online for about 4 USD a pop.

Total price all in is a whopping 56 USD!

Took me all of 9 minutes to finish the box. It actually took me longer to photograph, upload the pics, and create this post.

Very nice indeed Altair, although I'm saying that through clenched teeth where the bronzo is concerned

I've been thinking about another couple of watch boxes to try and 'standardise' a bit more so maybe a home project instead!

If you don't mind the non luxurious feel of the pre cut pelican foam it is exceptionally easy to customize, affordable, and offers fantastic protection for the watches (its made to withstand high impact and protect delicate instruments). I dont mind it for my Panerai watches as it fits the military feel, but I personally would not store by dressier watches in it. I prefer the look and feel of my leather box for those.

This box was a lucky accident, I just happened to have an old box in one hand and spare foam in the other and there you have it, but I am exceptionally pleased with the results!

PS: The Bronzo is exceptional! It has begun showing patina and the ride is a thrill! Shocked that Panerai announced that there aren't going to be any more bronze Panerais as the experience of owning one and experiencing the aging process up close is very cool.

That's some lineup of camera equip, almost as impressive as the watches!

Cool box setup, I like that. I'd put a piece of thin foam or rubber on the top of the inside of the box just as an added layer of protection against scratching of the bezels.

I guess you don't only collect watches. Does Nikon send you swag as well?

Very nice indeed Altair. It looks great and sounds like it was a fun project. Looking forward to seeing some pics of the collection, just to see what changes you've made.

That's cool! And super envious of that Bronzo. Doesn't look like i will ever own one, since the only one my Breitling dealer found and offered was priced DOUBLE retail!

Super cool Ahmed. You and your collection makes me want to move to your neck of the woods to work!

Look, Altair, you can't just say "Oh yeah and that on the left is the Bronzo", and leave it at that!! Pictures man! Review man!

Awesome collection, as indeed it has been for a number of years now.... and like a fine wine it's getting even better with age.

That box is superb BTW as well. You'd pay a fortune for something like that if you were to buy it ready made as a watch-case. Very nice indeed!
