They'll take the watch off my dead wrist.

You might want to consider an alternate plan.

Yeah, not a good idea at all when travelling to most of the third country cities, where you can be killed just to steal your shoes...

Just throwing it out there, I lived in Prague for 18 months and the pick-pockets were experts. Didn't happen to me, but had to deal with lots of Americans at the Embassy who were victims. But I love that city! :D

when i first got my super avenger i spoke to my house insurance provider. They told me that as long as the watch is on my wrist i'm insured.. if i take it off to show someone or to put it in a safe not in my house then i'm not insured.
I called them as i was at the time doing business trips and didnt want to be caught out on an insurance technicality.. Think i had to pay 10 pounds or so to add it to my house insurance.

A couple of good points there Badbeatrich.

To add - here in the UK if you were mugged (ie, stopped and told to hand over the watch OR ELSE) I think the consensus of opinion is to hand it over to them as your life/health is more valuable BUT in order to claim off the insurance - you are required to notify the police and get a 'crime registration' number (or whatever the police call it but a ref number for the incident).

On the safe point - what happens if the watch is stolen from a hotel safe - if not covered by your house insurance, is it covered by the hotel insurance then?

Most hotels will try not to accept any liability for anything left in the room safe. However generally most countries / states have specific laws for hoteliers and they do have to accept limited liability. In the UK the Proprietors Act (from 1956!) limits a hotels liability to £50 for a single item up to a maximum aggregate of £100. However if the hotel is at fault you may be able to claim the full cost, as occurred recently in Austria.

Personally I insure all valuables against loss or theft, as it is generally difficult to prove another entity was responsible for the care of your own property and claim compensation from them.

Thanks ptm,

So for the OP, I think that the best thing is to leave the watch on your wrist and to cover it up if you are in doubt of safety (yours or the watches). Pretty much what I do anyway :D .

Yeah, after reading all the comments here, I'm less afraid to go and enjoy the trip with a watch I really like! :)
Maybe I was over reacting to some videos about urban violence in those cities I saw on youtube...

Some members commented that in both cities there are a lot of really wealthy people with much more expensive watches, and it did make sense for me. But most importantly, don't go to suspicious places with your watch exposed...

I really appreciate all your comments here, thank you!
