Sorry to bore you again but just spoke to an AD in the US (Govberg Jewellers) and they have offered me a Skyland at £400 or $790us less than my nearest AD in Scotland and that includes the 17.5% VAT I have to pay when it comes through customs so I think I'm going to bite his hand off!!

Anyway, what would be the procedure for shipping the watch, who are the best people to deal with and is that my responsibility or the AD's cos the AD wasn't 100% sure of the logistics of shipping or what the shipping may cost....does anyone have any ideas, any help would be appreciated for this process as I am a virgin to this :D !!

Thanks.

The AD usually knows. They just give it to fedex as usual, and fill out the international shipping slip instead of the domestic one.

My experience would say avoid FedEx if posible for a starter, maybe I'm biased.

Other than that have a look on the USPS (US Postal Sevice) website to see what the score is regarding priority shipping. The Royal Mail will charge you an £8 fee to sort the customs clearance out but g'tee not to cause a delay in the delivery. I'm sure you can pay duty etc online with the Royal Mail as final carrier.

Just a by the by - ask the AD to put a bit of bubble wrap inside the outer box to stop the silver lettering on the lid getting worn off in transit. Even with the best packing it is a problem without that 2 pence worth of extra packing.

By the way - sounds like a good deal - waiting to get the next instalment! Whoever said persistance doesn't pay - well done!

Hi, Postage wise, its all a gamble, yes Im a UK dealer, but Im not trying to poach the sale. Bear in mind , Maximum insurance payout for loss is £500, plus import duty of only about 2% & VAT is also added. In my expirence putting description as A watch, Value at anything over £500 makes your package a target for those good old boys in the customs & depots to have a look, Ive had 5 empty boxes delivered in the past. Would never trust Royal Mail to handle it UK side. Fedex or Forget it is my advice. Hope it works out for you but be careful.

If it's FedEx it won't be Royal Mail - it will be FedEx or another similar courier (I'm aware that you're on Shetland). If they use USPS it will be Royal Mail - Parcel Force Worldwide.

You are on Shetland aren't you? Maybe you know my wifes family (Williamson/Hughson from Gluss - or Ramsay by marriage) small world 'ain't it?

My dislike of FedEx is due to my experience of their apathy regarding my recent watch purchase (from Interwatches) and previous contact when shipping stuff home from Europe after working away for a few months.

If you have to use them be prepared to chase them and/or bang your head on a handy wall - repeatedly.

Thanks 4 that BB. I think I'll get them to use USPS. I Know about your trials with FEDEX as I seem to be perminently on this site at the moment.

ps. Looks like I'm going to be buying my first Ling very shortly, thank God, that will be a real wait off my shoulders and onto my wrist!!!! :D :D

I'm glad to see Govberg was able to help out, George has been great to deal with. I'm sure George will know what to do as far as shipping.

My advise is don't get it sent USPS for the simple fact it is delivered via Royal Mail. Royal Mail parcels are about as corrupt and insecure as a postal service can get. The customs declaration is a magnet for some thieving b*****d in a sorting office somewhere - I know cos they tried to rip off an expensive Suunto watch from Jersey. I leapfrogged the local sorting office to trace it back myself and got proof they had received it. They denied having it for a few days. In the end it was miraculously found - "right at the back of the safe, mate" - yeah, right!

Be safe - iinsist on a courier - e.g. Fedex or UPS.

Latest installment!

Spoke to the AD just now confirmed the watch I want, they have it in stock, they can only use FEDEX so I'll have to take a chance on that. I know one or two people have had problems on here but quite a few seem to think their ok. So he's e-mailing me an invoice for payment in the next half hour so that should be that stage complete all for around about $3500. :D

Well - so far so good.

Hope all goes well and will wait to see the pics.

BTW the Ramsey from Gluss/Ollerberry is 8' 5" not 5' 8" (slight exageration!) but quite a big bloke (Robert) with hands like dinner plates! He's my Wifes', sisters, husban (my Bro in Law) and has a croft up there.

As you say - small world.
