i have recently acquired an iwc. in the manual iwc claims the watch is shockproof. i feel this is a big claim after numerous threads about dropping watches and golfing with them. i have done a little research into what makes a mechanical watch shock resistant. would they cover it if it were to drop ( i dont plan on testing this) how shockproof do you think their watch is? do you believe that they should be able to claim this

Without knowing specifically which watch this is pure guess work, but it probably just means that the balance is shockproofed - a claim made by many, many brands. Basically it means that the jewels at each end of the balance pinion are 'sprung' - generally using one of two shock absorption systems - kif or incabloc.

thank you roff ( IW376705 ) i am curious to see what kind of test a watch would have to go through to claim this, or how shockproof it really is. it is kind of like that screw on the back of the bell & ross lol

There's a reason the gauge shows "brains" at one end of the scale, and "balls" at the other.

I think that the Aquatimer just claims shockproof movement which is what I described - spring mounted jewels. It's not something you test for, it just is, and it's a feature of virtually every mechanical movement these days.
