Bakelite is not a company, its a material. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakelite.

Yes, its the brand name of special type of hard plastic that was once commonly used on consumer goods, particularly electrical goods. It is still used today on mains electric plugs and sockets, and Breitling boxes. The fake versions of the boxes typically use modern plastic or painted wood.

Thank you for the information. I believe they are made in France? But would really love to make contact. I know there must be people out there witha genuine box, that can at least confirm the differences between what they see in the one presented, and what they have. So far people have mentioned a few.
I am interested in information regarding-
a. felt bottoms?
b. Guang Tong press stud on travel cases?
c. Twin hinges?
Do you have these on yours?
Thank you

A few things I noticed and compared to mine:
1) "T" missing as though it was glued on?
2) Hinge is different.
3)The snap...Top snap(male end) is built into leather lining. The bottom snap is imprinted BREITLING
I would say the travel case is FAKE :guns:
For the felt...I put felt on the bottom of my Rolex box, and intend to do it to my Breitling too.

You keep repeating questions that appear answered, there is very little doubt the box you picture is fake.

But, as you have repeatedly been told, this is no proof the watch that was stolen was a fake too.

If the father does not even remember which Breitling model he gave as a present, I see little to no possibility for him to claim a replacement, you have not told us what the claimed value was and what proof this is based on. Strange story.

WatchFred, Thank you for your reply. I wholeheartedly now agree that it is without a doubt a fake box, presented to me to proove that the watch was genuine. I am now very confident, thank you. It is obviously the strong opinion of many. I worked on the watch, and was suspicious, but at that time all was well. I will let you know the outcome.

Thank you for reply Twotone540. When you say "T" is missing as though it was glued on? How is yours attached? Yes you can see it was glued on. Also I just noticed if you look below the R it appears the surface is broken exposing wood grain. Does yours have one hinge? Thanks, just clarifying.
