I know Breitling blacksteel is viewed as overdone by many, including me, and any alteration to the beloved Blackbird is seen as sacrilege by many, me excluded. Still, when I first saw this Blacksteel Blackbird about a year ago I feel in love with it, but wasn’t about to spend the jack they wanted for my first DLC watch. Then I came across this one year old pre-owned and never worn (the strap was not even sized) on Saturday and couldn’t resist when offered at about the cost of a new Seawolf.

The DLC is brushed on the bezel and mirror finished – literally – on the case. It is somewhere between a dark gray and black. (“She looks more Greek than Italian.” ~The Godfather). The red numerals on the tachymeter scale are almost imperceptible at a glance, leaving only the red sub dial hands and tip of the second hand showing touches of color. This is miles from the infamous Redstrike Blackbird.

Anyway, controversial or not, I love it. Here are some quick and crappy pics –

It's a tough piece to photograph. The finish, for a "black" watch, is suprisingly 'bright', almost metallic. I don't usually care for dlc type watches, but this was really done right, and with just the right amount of red accent. A stunner in person, and actually works well with a shirt and tie.

Congrats on the piece and what sounds like a helluva deal!

As much as DLC is overdone, it does look something fierce.

This is my favorite BB model as the red is just enough without being all "Red Strike"

Nice pickup Sharkman

I saw one of those at an AD about a year ago and really liked the finish on the case, almost a shimmery/satiny (how about those words) look, and as you probably know I love the red sub-dial hands :) . It really does fit the Blackbird name.

Congrats, and your not even waiting for the new Basel releases ?

I love it.

One of the two DLC i like. The other being in a, what we can call. "lower category". It's the Steinhart Nav-B Chrono II DLC.

Nice price Sharky if you picked that up for the price of a Seawolf!

Personally (as we all know) I don't like surface coatings and I'm really not sure about the red on this one, but it's a nice piece all the same.

(Now if it was polished ceramic, with simple white hands and markings - i.e. no red - it'd be absolutely awesome IMO)

I typically don't care for Breitling's blacksteel models, but your pictures make me feel very different about this one. I really like the "mirror" finish on the case...I always thought that the case of the BS models was a flat/dull finish.

Great pick up...you definitely got the nicest of the BS models that Breitling makes. Side note...please take good care of her as I don't want any scratches on it when you sell it a few months down the road.
