After living in the UK for 4 months now, I finally had a spare hour to kill while I was in London and decided to wander into the fine watch department at Harrods. All I can say is that I regret taking this long to find this place. If heaven is even moderately reminiscent of it, I'll be content. I've never seen so many high end watch brands in a single location before. It's absolutely incredible and anyone on this forum who ever visits London should make it a point to stop by.

As I'd never seen a Richard Mille in the metal, I decided to stroll into the boutique. I hit it off really well with the guy who was working there and he decided to let me try on a 1 of 11 LE costing 300k GBP. It was actually my least favorite of all the RM watches in the boutique, but it was still pretty cool to be able to molest such an expensive piece.

As I was leaving I swung by the Breitling counter and noticed there were a couple Chronomat Evos in the case that were on sale. I'm not sure how many of these are still around, so I figured some on here may be interested. They also had a sale on the Panerai tourbillon piece (PAM 306). At 40k GBP, it was 50% off!

I lived north of London for 2 years when I was younger. I have been to Harrod's and their watch section. I liked it. I had an interest in watches but being barely 20 years old, I was early in my journey, if you know what I mean. I didnt know of, or appreciate yet fine watches. Like you, they let me try on a watch that cost twice as much as my house, and I was taken away by it. Now that I'm 29, I would really like a chance to go back and see it all again. I'm sure that I would love it.

Yeah Harrods and Bond St are the places to visit in London for quality watches.

It always amazes me how accessible they staff are in Harrods : they have no problems whipping out a £100k watch for you to try on. I've never found the snooty attitude there that you sometimes find in high-end boutique jewellers. The staff have always been a credit to the store as far as I'm concerned.

It's called the "Pretty Woman" syndrome. Some dude can walk in looking like a bum but you never know if he's got the cash to drop a 100K quid on a watch. 8)

:D Yeah very true, but it's something that a lot of smaller places seem to overlook.

When I shopped in Ft Lauderdale in a high end jewelry store, they didn't give me the time of day, even though I don't necissaraly look the part, I'm a knowledgeable consumer, and have the means to purchase items in that store if I wanted. I never got that feeling at Harrod's. They let me try models on, and answered my questions, and had a nice conversation with the folks behind the counter.

I totally agree with the comments about Harrod's service. They were far less "snobby" than most smaller stores I've been in, both in the US and UK.

I had the same reaction. I only live 5 minutes away from the shop and had been inside the watch department many times and there was always a lovely selection. It is only recently that the've opened their new watch Hall which knocked me for six when I wondered into it the other day. It is now well and truly my number 1 watch hunting ground :D . As for the staff, I've walk into 3-4 boutiques there from the likes of vacheron constantin to a.lange & sohne dress like any other 20 year old student, jeans and hoody all be it with a Breitling BB on my wrist but they never have any problem getting out £25,000-£100,000 watches for me and always take the time to go over every piece with me. A must visit if you can.
