I'm ok with most 'must see' areas in London, except for late night tube trains, and (for me) Camden Market, I've not had much to get the heckles up. My experience of Paris is similar, felt at ease, no issues and a beautiful break...I admit to only exploring the popular areas, we didn't go too deep. No brunette spouting literature though, I had to make do with a petite blonde.
Naples was the only place I've been that really worried me...its reputation didn't help, but I was on edge the whole time. I didn't take a watch on that trip, and my wife didn't take a shoulder bag.
As others have said already, just take sensible precautions, keep your wits about you and enjoy your trip.

That's handy to know Super, I plan on taking Mrs KMG to Venice one day and we both wear B'Lings as daily wear watches - we may have to tone our wear down for the visit.

Another place I would be dubious about wearing my 'Ling would be Barcelona - I've heard that the pick pocketing is rife there :guns: .

Yeah I've heard that too, so I was a little careful with what I took me while traipsing down Las Ramblas. It was cheapy G-Shock all the way for me.

That said, Barcelona is one of my favourite cities and it certainly doesn't have a nasty vibe to it - far from it IMO.

Quite right Driver, been there myself but a long time ago. I gather the pick pockets are a devious lot out there - really devious  .

With the jewelry of the Mrs. Never had a problem. But I'm guessing security can open it easier than you think.

Im sure they can, but by "involved" I mean that it requires certain equipment and if the hotel is anything decent, they likely keep very good track and logs of those kind of things. ANy time ive forgotten my code in Vegas, hey have to come up with some contraption to get it open. They would really have to target you as a specific victim, unlike a maid who might just be opportunistic.

Don't be too comfortable with the hotel safe...

See here and here!

Most hotels will not generally accept liability for anything left in the room safe. The default unlock code for digital safes is I understand very common in many hotels. Particularly busy ones with fast turn around times for rooms. Housekeeping staff use the codes to reset the safe when you have checked-out.

I left my iPad charger locked in the room safe at Trump LV last year. I realised just after leaving in the car, and when I went back the front desk advised that housekeeping was in the room and that they would bring it down. Minutes later the maid came down with it. I was telling a friend who was a concierge for IHG, and he said it is very common. Most change the code from zeros though!

Thats very strange and I have a hard time believing it. Not that it didnt happen to you, but that the events that happened away from you may have been different than you were told. Ive forgotten my code on more than one occasion in Vegas and security had to come up with some hand held machine and attach it to the safe, and it took a couple of minutes to open.

Thats also why there is usually a sign on the safe that requests that you leave the safe door open when you check out. The code can be changed by anybody, as long as the door is open. If the maid could just unlock it with a default code, there would be no benefit to leaving the door open for them.

Yeah, me too, never really believe too much on those safes...

But I'm more confident now, I'm going to wear my watch whenever possible, and keep it locked in my luggage whenever visiting suspicious places 8)

When I travel...The watch stays on all the time.
Shower,shave,swim,sleep...24-7
They'll take the watch off my dead wrist.

You might want to consider an alternate plan.

Best rule of thumb, if you don't feel comfortable than don't wear it.
You either wear it for yourself or for others.
If its the second one than I have nothing to add.

Wessa.
