I'm a newbie and am looking to own my first Breitling in the next few months. Hopefully and pre-owned one which I'm looking for on this forum. Anyhow, some of the Breitling's are battery and some are self-winding. I prefer self-winding and want to stay away from battery models.

Which models are the battery ones?

For starters, any model with "Quartz" in the name, and any model with a digital display.

You can look up any model you're interested in here: http://www.breitlingsource.com/models/all.html

thanks wrangler... I see that worldofwatches.com is advertising on this forum, are they a reliable source for pre-owned Breitling's? They advertise all over the net and their prices seem "fair" I guess. I'm still trying to see where the prices for these watches are.

Anything quartz is battery powered. Movements described as "automatic" or "mechanical" are non-battery powered. "Automatic" means the movement winds itself. "Mechanical" could mean it is self-winding, or it could require manual winding. That said, very few Breitlings require manual winding, so in all likelihood your choices will be between automatic and quartz movements. As Wrangler pointed out, you can find out what you need to know by checking the models section of this website. Each model listing says the movement used in the watch; you can then click on the movement link to find out more details about that specific movement.

I have no knowledge of World of Watches at all, and can't offer any input on that company.

For prices on used watches, check what watches have sold for on ebay, here, watchuseek, etc.

In addition to the advice already given, you can tell by the model number. If the 2nd character / 1st number of the model reference is between 0 and 4 then it's mechanical, if it's 5 or higher then it's battery - either quartz or super quartz.

Bear in mind that if you are looking used there have been some models fairly recently that were manual wind - still mechanical, but not self winding.
