I used to use the edge of a dull knife, but it was more work, and strictly on Timex (or cheaper) products.

Here's something I do.
I cut a small notch in the strap...where the spring bar goes...this allows just the right amount of added
space to use the tool.right on the edge...Did one today. :D
PS
Put the notch on the back...Where it can't be seen 8)

Well, thanks to everyone for all the help. So, I picked up my watch today (looks great, I have to say!), and it has the black leather band with the clasp. One side of the band is adjustable at the clasp, but the other side is fixed. Is there a springbar there too?

Looks smaller. Will the same spring bar tool work?

I haven't done it, but I don't see why not.
