If you knew someone who had been given,wore or purchased a fake watch.Would you tell them?
I did.
I feel if they knowingly wear a fake watch....They are fake too!
Goes for shoes,handbags,etc...etc..

If someone had just bought a watch that they believed to be real then I would tell them to help them get their money back, however 99+% of people who wear fakes are well aware of it so what's the point of telling htem something that they already know. Just comes across as being a jerk.

Who cares, just mind your own business. Unless that person was trying to sell a fake then it's none of your concern.

To answer the OP, I don't think it's really "polite" to point out a fake watch. As the others have said, the person almost always knows that what they have isn't the genuine article. If I'm specifically asked, I wouldn't have any qualms about telling the truth but this never happens.

As long as they don't try to tell me that their fake is real I won't throw it back in their face. Or if they ask me my opinion and had purchased it unknowingly I would assist in any way I could.

I agree completely! There is nothing worse to know you have been scammed and if you still have a chance to get your money refunded I would want to know, especially on a big ticket item!!!! If I found out when it is too late I would feel terrible.

Really? I said given or wore. It was given and after I told him, he continued to wear it.
I felt he was not trustworthy after that. He was a preacher and he lied by wearing it.IMHO

With all due respect, that seems a wee bit harsh and overly judgmental. People like us place the utmost priority on authenticity, but I'm not sure the same can be said of, or expected from, non-enthusiasts. He may not see it as a "lie" as you do. Or perhaps he can't afford the real thing, and is therefore content with the fake. For me, that alone wouldn't define a person's character.

In response to your original question, I think it would depend on the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of the watch, and the nature of my relationship with the person. If he didn't know it was fake and my instincts told me that he would appreciate being told the truth, then yeah, I'd tell him. If he knowingly acquired a fake, then I'd keep my opinions to myself.

Not at all! I just think you had an unrealistic expectation that he would see the fake issue from your point of view. If he's still speaking to you, then no harm / no foul.
