New to the site and after spending the last few hours looking at the forum discussions, i want to say thanks to all the experts sharing their knowledge. I have been looking for a 1950s vintage watch for ahile and found this Breitling Premier 797 just before Christmas and figured it would make a really nice x-mas present to myself. I really like the watch and is what I was looking for in a vintage watch. The hands are a dark blue which really look sharp as well. I am excited to learn more about any history on this model. It has a new band and looks like they had it reconditioned. Beyond some aging on the dial its in great condition except for a small scratch on the dial next to the right subdial and I dont know how much that affects the value. Would love any thoughts on valuation as well. I am fairly sure I overpaid, but just dont know by how much. I bought it to wear and not super concerned about value, but want to make sure I didnt get ripped off. The serial number is 706292 which dates it to 1947. Any information, thoughts or comments are much appreciated. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

congrats on a nice, rather rare piece.
as you do not state your purchasing price, it is rather hard to tell if you overpaid or not, but does it matter ? you wanted a vintage Breitling and got a nice watch in good condition, enjoy it. just clarify with the seller whether the watch has been serviced recently, if not, it might be a good idea to invest in a service if you plan to wear and use it regularly.

Thanks. I agree with your comment on not being too concerned on overpaying as I do really like it. I paid $4300 US and the seller is ******, which seems to be reputable. They provide a one year warranty and they had it serviced. My only concern is the little scratch. I understand a vintage watch is going to have some imperfections, but the pics they provided did not show the scratch but you could see the age spots on the dial. I am concerned that they might have done a little photo shop work on the pics.

well, price definitely is on the high side. the dial is very nice for the age, though if the scratch was photoshopped out of the sales ad this would make me rather angry.

I apologize for raining on your parade but I think you paid way too much for that watch even as nice as it is. Check this out, and I think it's overpriced.

Thanks for the information and the link. I knew I overpaid, but didn't know by that much. I can send it back because of the scratch they didn't disclose ( and maybe even covered up ) so I think I will do that. I really love the watch, so maybe I will contact Heritage. Thanks again!
