Hi Folks,

A dealer I know wss offering this watch for sale , i don't know much about it... he keeps saying that it is extremely rare and that only once evey few years they come on the market... anyway he is a salesman.. but it is an interesting watch none the less.... Any information is appreciated ( how rare are they?what is the '10' for? do they hold any value as a vinage piece... 41mm )

""Breitling 'Serie Speciale' Spatiographe steel auto countdown chrono.
41mm model is on the original Navitimer bracelet.

Cheers

In the end I did find one, like it, though I do not wear it as much as I thought I would. Can post some pics if needed, mine has Roman numerals.

The 10 is the minute totalizer for the chronograph. On a standard chrono you would have a small subdial that would show how many minutes have elapsed, but the spatiograph uses this novel idea.

It's a really nice watch, but to suggest that they only come to the market every few years is salesman hype. They are uncommon because they weren't big sellers when first launched.

Great watches those. As said, you don't see many because they weren't that popular - I dunno why because the 10 minute totaliser is a pretty unique and interesting complication IMO.

@Watchfred - lovely example you have there.

I still remember that watch. We had three of them, they were nearly impossible to sell. The watch was fine, not overpriced, but somehow, nobody wanted that complication. I think, customers did not understand it. One was once stolen, the other two were sold after a few years with a huge disount.
