Hi everyone,

I'm in the UK, have three Breitlings, one Chronospace, and two Aerospace, one a repetition minutes, the other a later version with I think the superquartz movement. All have been under the care of Breitling for servicing in the past and the repetition has just had a new battery (the other two going in sometime next year for a maintenance service).

I really fancy a new Aerospace Advantage with the copilot module, but wondered if anyone had an idea of the best way to achieve this? Would going into a Breitling dealer and asking for a part-ex not generally be the done thing and unlikely to be met with anything other than mirth, and so would selling privately be the answer? Problem is that I'm not too keen on selling on ebay, and I'm pretty worried that I'll have scam attempts or perhaps actually get scammed through the paypal buyer is always in the right loophole.

I never really thought I'd sell them, but it's probably the only way I'll be able to fund an Advantage/copilot. And does anyone have any idea what I should expect to get for them? All in mint to immaculate condition, the Chronospace hasn't been worn in years and still has the plastic protector on the crystal, the repetition is also mint, hardly worn and again with the protector on (as I've only just got it back from Breitling in Tunbridge Wells), the Aerospace Chronograph is in excellent condition with a few minor case and bracelet marks. Both of these are titanium and gold, the chronospace is stainless steel I think.

Any advice from the hardened colletors appreciated.

Vulcanpilot,

Did you actually pilot Vulcans or is that just a dream name :D ?

Give Andrew Michael's in Newark a try (they sponsor this site and their link is at the top of the page).

I had a B'ling B1 and fancied a change. My wife had a B'ling Callistino and also fancied a change. So, we went to Andrew Michael's (we had met him on a number of occasions including getting the B1 serviced through him). He gave us a very reasonable part-ex on our watches for a new Airwolf and Oceane. Now that was back in 2007 and things may have been different then but I think it will depend on what you want to part ex etc - just give him a call (he is very friendly and helpful and the last time I met him he didn't bite either :D :D :D :D :D ). Please let us know how you get on :) .

As already said there are a couple of dealers that can accomodate a part-ex deal, and Andrew Michaels are most likely to have the combo you desire. However you do pay a premium for the peace of mind and ease of deal.

You could even try selling a watch or two here on BS. Most watches that appear for sale are in the US, so you may find you have a reasonable hit rate being in the UK. Good pics and a willingness to do face to face deals will help massively

Good luck with the watch hunt!! :)

Kind of a hard one really. All your watches are quartz so your SH prices will be reflected in that. I guess if you bought them new you are taking a rather large hit especially after having them serviced. If it were me I would hold onto the ones you got and save a bit longer to get the one you want but as I say thats just MO. Also think about going Automatic, maybe the chronospace Auto!
Either way if you do want to sell pop them on the sale area here and check past listings here and the bay for SC prices.

As with buying any watch buy the seller, of cource that works in reverse for you, if you get my meaning !

Good luck in your choice. I ll keep a eye out for some of your watches here, who knows I may fancy antoher SQ soon.

Hmmm ... not fond. Bit too 'blingy' for my taste - I tend to use mine as a tool rather than a show-piece, hence why I'd quite like the copilot...

But thanks for all the replies so far. I'll contact Andrew Michaels next week to see if they can help.

I realise I'm probably going to lose a fair bit by p/ex'ing but two of the three watches were bought at a good price (no VAT  ) so perhaps I won't loose as much as I could have.

Hi Vulcanpilot,

Well, both of the B'lings I have owned have always been 'tools' and not showpieces. The first was a B1 (it was a lovely watch) and a great tool. My current watch was the replacement to the B1 - it's a sunburst Airwolf and also a great tool which kind of looks nice too. I'm not a great believer in having a nice watch for it to sit in a box and not be worn.

Exactly - which is why it seems stupid to have three watches with two in boxes, not being worn now.

The Chronospace is a really nice watch, and the sliderule was quite attractive, but almost impossible to use in real life. I bought the Chronometer Aerospace (the one after the repetition minutes variant) as it was a bit more understated, and I got it at a cracking price from Mappin & Webb, tax free and in a sale too  The Repetition Minutes was left to me fairly recently and I've never worn it. But it's also starting to get a bit daft paying out a fair sum every 3 or so years to Breitling service for new batteries (and potentially £300 overhauls which they seem keen to 'upsell' you) - just one watch for me is more sensible.

Perhaps I should just sell the Chronospace and earlier Aerospace and wear (out) the newer Aerospace - but I just fancy a change, a newer Breitling and one that will be a bit more useful, and the Advantage/copilot seems to fit the bill.

Anyone know what the going rate for a good, 2nd hand Advantage with copilot is?

G'night all....
