Okay so this may sound contradicting... but are there any reasonably priced (msrp) gold watches out there? Maybe $10,000 or less.

I wouldn't want something completely gold but something like the BR 01-92 (ish), Gold accents.

Even though I have been in the market for my third watch for the last month or so now(and still can't make up my mind, surprise surprise), for SOME REASON... Gold has been catching my eye.

Any ideas would help!

Well, I have been thinking along the same sort of lines, however I want to go the whole hog. I have a few Breitlings, and a solid gold watch would be very nice; a sort of ultimate watch, a nice way to essentially top the whole lot.

When I've been looking around, one thing has struck me as quite clear - buying new is basically a waste really. I have seen quite a few Chronomats at around £4k used, solid gold case with leather strap; new the current Chronomat in 18k gold with a leather strap is a quite staggering £15k. I personally think, and a lot of others, that new prices are too high at the moment.

If you want to buy new, you really have to consider the used option - brand new a Chronomat in steel/gold is more expensive than a used one in solid gold. Just doesn't really make sense to me.

BTW - I do have a Chronomat GT (that I got new in '99) in steel/gold, with matching pilot bracelet and mother of pearl dial; quite a stunning piece really; maybe the sort of thing you might be after, but of course it is the earlier design, the size is as the original, but I think it is a bit nicer than the new ones today anyway; a bit too bling now, I think!

2 tone b01 is a good one

My brother has the two tone CE and it's sharp! I would like something different though.

I've been on a two tone love affair myself for quite awhile... something about the beautiful harmonious amalgamation of SS and gold... definitely Rolex does it real well as well as the Chrono Evo's... on the secondhand market I think a lot of two tone pieces are certainly great value for the buck...

On the other hand... a solid gold piece is really in a league of its own IMO... especially in rose...

good call john. both great watches. out of thos 2 i think i might lean towards the sub just due to the clasp.

IMO rolex does two tone SO well. And the gold is solid. You can get a new one at discount under 10. (for that matter there are some nice Hublot Fusion 41mm models with rose gold bezels retail priced under 10 if you don't mind a rubber strap.)

On the black calf (or even black croco) it has just the right amount of "gold watch luxury" without being too bling.

Just continuing on from my reply, this is a picture of an identical Chronomat to mine (sorry I don't have any that I've taken of mine), in my view an absolute stunner:

The mother of pearl dial is beautiful; not immediately apparent that the dial is MOP from certain angles, but when you notice it, it is just sublime. I think the gold and steel combination is just so nice, very classy and tasteful, it compliments the dial perfectly. I think if you are going to go for a steel/gold combination, going for the MOP dial works so well with that.
