A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting the Luftwaffe Museum at the former RAF base in Gatow, Berlin. I put together a slide show of my pics for my aviation minded mates and thought a couple of you on here might like a look. The slide show uses Flash so wont work on iPhones/iPads etc.

Some very interesting aircraft there like the ZLL (Zero Length Launch) F-104 and the forward swept wing Hansa Jet. A lot of the aircraft, especially former NVA airframes, are in a pretty sorry state but those which have been restored look like new! Hangar 7 was closed but I took pics through the glass to record what was inside - which included a Phantom!

Very nice, any slideshow that has a Lightning in it is worth viewing! And who knew that so many widowmakers had managed to successfully return to earth in one piece

Nice pics! Some very interesting aircraft there. I'm off to Berlin in a few weeks. Might have to pay a visit!

:wowzers Sharkie, very nice pics, thanks a lot for sharing.

I didn't realize they had so many exhibits over there and so many "eastern" birds, even with the Luftwaffe cross.

Not too many of your beloved F-4 though, maybe because they're still active.

Only just - they're due for retirement from the Luftwaffe in 2012. We'd planned the German trip to go to an open day at the last remaining F-4 base at Wittmund but it got cancelled

Hopefully, there'll be a big send off next year! :D

Ha ha, you might want to visit Greece then (if it's not done already). They will remain the sole F-4 users, except for Japan, if I'm not mistaken.

They usually organize an open day in November for the Air Force. Remains to be seen if that's still on though given the economic situation.

And Turkey! Pissed off that I never knew about their 100th Anniversary show in early June until after the event. Would have jumped an Easyjet over there for a short break and superb show by all accounts. Reminds me of what IAT Fairford used to be like!

Wanted to revive this old thread and dedicate these pics taken at the recent Hellenic Air Force Open House at Tanagra Air Base near Athens to Sharkie (mouth):

A classic for the Hellenic Air Force and still doing its, rather smokey, job.

Thanks Tomcat! Here's a pic of 7487 I took at Fairford in 2009. I love the special marks of this bird!

Well I never!

Breitling Forum is the last place I expected to bring back some memories from the past!

The last time I was there (1983) the entrance looked something like this.....

Never say never.

And never underestimate the power of BS...sometimes it is better than Wikipedia.

With the human touch as a bonus. :lingsrock:

Bruce Springsteen?

Glad the thread brought back some (hopefully happy) memories from the past and thanks for the wonderfully nostalgic pic of the gate Mr Welsh!
