Looks like a Breitling ref 178. The hands aren't probably original. Need to see a shot of the back cover since it should have a serial number and reference number on it.

No serial number outside the caseback.
A reference 177 is badly engraved ... but crown, dial and movement look ok.
Just add a pic of the caseback.

Does it sound possible to you it's original or is it a 18k fake ???

There should be a serial number inside the caseback or on the outside of the caseback. It's not genuine for this style watch without it. That 177 is a number I don't remember seeing before and the quality of the engraving is poor. I think that's enough to stay away from this one if you're considering it.

on one hand I agree with you but on the other I feel something curious ... how could it be a fake ?
I asked a pic of the inside of the caseback to the vendor

Don't like this at all.

That 177 is not from the Breitling factory, and is not a correct reference that I've ever come across, and I don't like the movement ring either. Date looks way too new to be original as well.

I'm not considering it anymore.

Thx gentlemen for your help

Would it be possible for any of you learned fellows to cut and paste the movement photo and insert text boxes showing the non original parts you can see. I am very much a newbie but find the workings of movements really interesting.

Oh and a belated hello to all you chaps from Phil, I forgot to introduce myself which was rude of me, your input and knowledge in helping with my watch is much appreciated

The movement looks OK on this one - but look at the caseback and in particular the way that 177 is engraved.

I see what you mean with the engraving it is poor, still, it is a nice looker, would there have been a B on the crown or am I waffling on

I think this early of a piece if it was Breitling wouldn't have a B on the crown... Had a 46-47 Premier which I regret letting go by the way  and it was unsigned... this looks perhaps from a similar era.

Would the crown of a non existent Breitling model have had a B?

Hmmm, need to think about that one - kinda like if a crown fell in a fake wood sort of thing
