After a long self imposed moratorium against acquiring any new additions to my meager collection, I finally succumbed to this terrible affliction and had no choice but to indulge this week. The thing is, not only did I indulge my desires, I was a fricking glutton in satisfying the urge. To be honest the result of my gluttony wasn't the original plan I had in mind, but I just couldn't help myself. It was like all the stars in the universe aligned and provided a multitude of opportunities which destroyed all my willpower and in the end resistance was futile. Actually I can't remember how it all started, but after coming out of my "WIS" induced frenzy, I found I had acquired 3 new pieces. In reality only 2 of these new pieces will make a place within my collection as the third piece was a "Guilt Complex" purchase for my fiance.

My first pick up is probably one those pieces which a person either a loves em or hates em, of which obviously I fall into the former category. It is a low numbered Limited Edition Zenith Defy Xtreme of which there was only 100 produced. The 46.5mm case and bracelet are made of titanium and secures to the wrist with a hidden butterfly clasp. It is powered by the famous El Primero 4021 engine which beats at 36,000 vph and possesses 39 jewels. The face is a black and silver guilloche dial that is partially skeletonized which allows a bit of a view into the internal workings. Other features it sports are a an extreme water resistance rating of 1000m, 50 hour power reserve indicator, small seconds complication, 30 minute counter complication, and a helium escape valve.

My second pick up is from a watch maker whose line I've long admired, but not had the opportunity to acquire. It is a Glashutte Original Senator cased in 18k Rose gold with matching 18k Rose gold deployant which secures the brown croc strap to the wrist. The case measures 39mm and is powered by Glashutte's caliber 100. The attractive dark grey dial features moon phase, panoramic date, and 40 hour power reserve complications. On the flip side is a display back which shows off the beauty and craftsmanship of this intricate caliber. It has a water resistance rating of 50m, but I don't think I'll be doing any swimming in this piece. Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures as two of them are from the seller and the first is a stock photo. I hope to have this piece in my grubby paws sometime in January upon my return from Thailand.

Last up on the list was my "Guilt Trip" purchase, I just didn't feel right about treating myself without treating my Thai Fiance. I managed to pick up a very nice ladies 2 tone Rolex DateJust which she can sport at our wedding at the end of next year. Actually nabbing this piece has an added bonus other than just relieving my guilt complex. In a traditional Thai wedding, it is part of the ritual to display the dowry (called Sinsot) paid to the parents of the bride, gold purchased for the bride by the husband, and any other jewelry, as a sign of the man's respect towards his wife, her family, and his ability to provide for her.

Image

At any rate after such a spending spree I rather doubt I will be in much of a position to relieve my future pent up "WIS" needs for awhile, but it was fun while it lasted. I will try to post some follow up photos when they finally make to me.

Many congratulations! Wow, that Zenith and GO couldn't be further apart in terms of design, but I like them both. That Xtreme is one of the less err... extreme models, which is a very good thing in my book as some of the more OTT models look a little too much like G-Shocks for my liking. But that one of yours is very nice indeed. Love it! I'll be interested to see a wrist shot 'cause those babies arent small.

The GO is lovely, and that display back would make me wonder which way round to wear it!

Great pickups!

(oh and I guess congrats for the Rolie for the future Mrs Montexn too. )

Wow, those are some pick-ups, especially the Zenith. :wowzers As D8 said, so far apart from the GO. Enjoy them both.

Knowing you, I don't think that a should be a problem, in fact it should be the perfect fit. 8)

I also see that your Thailand rest-days ended up pretty good. My best wishes for the upcoming.

It's good to have you back. :)

Driver, thanks for the kudos buddy. Yeah they are totally different designs, but then again that was the goal. I have been wanting a gold dress watch for some time and I had GO picked as the maker to fill that bill some time back. As for the Xtreme, I primarily wear sport/dive watches as my daily wearers so it will make a fun addition to meet that end I think.

LOVE the Xtreme!! Have always loved it despite the bad rep, and I agree with Driver, your incoming is probably the nicest looking Xtreme made! Huge congrats on all 3! Please post a STOTC when these pcs arrive! :)

Nice additions indeed.

I still would love to have a Defy Extreme or two but have really been put off by my quality problems with Zenith. Hopefully yours will be faultless.

Thanks guys, it's good to see all of you still here and I'm glad to see everyone's positive comments of the Xtreme. I agree that some of them like Driver and a few others of ya mentioned are over the top. This model is different enough without really being too outlandish IMO and will make a fun piece as one of my daily wearers. It really sux that I can't get the Xtreme in time to go to Thailand with me...would like to take it down on a dive or two while I'm there. Just isn't enough time to get it over here to me in Afghanistan before I head out and plus my payment arrangements won't be completed until end of December anyhow, so I'll just have to wait until January..... :whiner: :violin: Thank goodness I have all my other "Boyz" to keep me company in the meantime. :cigar:

Serge, thanks for the welcome back and good to see you still here too, I see you've made some changes as well buddy. Thanks for the comment on my collection, but there is no way I can keep up with you and Sharkman...you guys have and have owned some really awesome pieces.

Roff, what kind of issues did you encounter sir? With where I'm at it would be a real pain in the rear to address any issues to say the least.

F14 thank you sir for providing the blast from the past, I hope that was more of a one-off experience rather than Zenith's SOP and that Roff finally received a satisfactory resolution from them.

Or perhaps I'll just provide a full and complete answer as that thread has been idle for almost 4 months!

The watch is currently in Switzerland for resolution of a recurrence of the date problems - different symptoms from before - the date would only advance when using quick set, not using the time or when the watch was running. It also developed a belief that there was a 32nd of the month, but no 1st.

It has been away from me for 7 of the last 12 months with currently no ETA for a return - apparently a faulty date change is hard to fix!!!

There is no sharing of knowledge with anyone in Canada as to what's going on, and while various communications have resulted in a number of apologies, I can't use apologies to tell the time.

I've got a million things coming up in the next couple of weeks, but trying to resolve the issue with Zenith is on my list after that - not sure that it will involve keeping the watch.
