I was in Munich recently and happen to come across Hanhart watches in a higher end watch shop. It was the first time i've ever seen any of their timepieces and didn't know much about the company.

How's the quality of their timepieces?? the watch I wanted to buy is the attached picture.

the movement for the time piece is HAN3809 modified automatic chronograph movement (bicompax), based on the Valjoux 7750 calibre; 28,800 vibrations per hour, 4 Hz; 28 jewels; rotor with a skeletonised Hanhart logo; power reserve of min. 42 hours

I was considering buying one at the Munich airport, but they didn't have the specific model i was looking for. The retail price for the watch is 4250 Euros. I emailed the company and it's possible to get at one location in the states, but the asking price is 5950 firm. I tried to negotiated a discounted price, but haven't succeeded. If i was to get it overseas, I'd be able to save on the tax, which i was told was about 15%.

Do you think the pricing is justified for the watch?? I saw that Govberg had an Navitimer LE for 6100 (although it was used, it still around the same price)

What are your suggestions/comments/advice??

4250 Euros is $6375 U.S cheaper from the one location you can buy it from. Buy the NaviTimer!

It's a pretty historic name, but not one of the big ones today. Solid watches with distinctive looks, but like so many others a lot of money for pretty standard movements simply because they don't have the sales volume. If you like the look then there's nothing wrong with them, but not much value at their price point in my opinion.

The preowned Navitimer that Govberg had sold. They should be getting another preowned one in soon and I believe they still have 1 brand new one left.

Funny, I was just reading an article on Hanhart.

Although having a history of 130 years, it's only since lately that the brand was rejuvenated. Thomas Morf, who used to work for Maurice Lacroix, is responsible for the re-organization of the production and the network distribution.

Hanhart was best known for his chronometers used for car racing and rallies. Models like the Hanhart Classic Tachymaster (3 piece-set) or the Dashboard 2-piece set are amongst the favorites.

Even though the obvious competitor was Heuer, Hanhart was privileged by oldtimer owners and it still is, to the point that a new edition of the Caliber 40 is due for BaselWorld 2012. Also, with prices starting at $ 3'000, it is well below what TAG-Heuer is actually offering.

Roff, which brand/timepiece would you recommend that has good value?

Need a little more than that to offer suggestions.

Price?

Function?

Style?

Price - I'd like to be in the 3-4k range, if possible, but am willing to go up to 6k if it's something i really love.

Functions- chronograph

Style - 43-48mm range, love the look and weight of Navitimer World ( I've had mine for quite some time and love it! That's one of the reasons i've been hesitant to by the Navitimer LE), Hublot AeroBang, I do like the look of the Hanhart in the original post, IWC Top Gun, U-Boat Flightdeck... I don't know if that helps get an idea for style or not??

You've got a heck of a lot of choices in that price range. Any number of Breitlings, Omega, Tag, etc and if you are prepared to look beyond completely new then you have possibilities opening up with Panerai, IWC, etc

Beyond the 'obvious' names, with the right discounts B&R and Graham become players if you don't care about the movement - not such great value for me, but looks wise you can't fault the uniqueness.

i need some assistance yet again. I was able to negotiate a very good price for the Hanhart and waited almost 4 weeks to get it. It finally arrived, but there's some discrepancies I wanted to get your opinion on.

1) The picture shown on the website of my watch has a reference number of 9.3- my watch shows 9.5
2) The watch movement description on the website and in the owners manual i received state that the watch has 28 jewels. When I looked through the display black at the movement, 25 jewels is etched in the movement (From what i've read that seems to be standard for the ETA 7750)

Is that abnormal that the website/owner manual would say 28 jewels and the movement itself say 25??

You'll have to get in touch with them and ask them. If any modification is done to the movement then it's entirely possible that the number of jewels changes.
