...and to be clear, I was referencing the "Marina Militare" photo which Serge posted. The latest blog photo was a Panerai-shaped watch with a generic dial. I notice that "Marina Militare" pieces can not be sold on Watchuseek.

Nor should they be IMO, I consider them fake and just as bad as buying a $50 fake Breitling in China Town. Everyone says that the fake market tries to screw people out of their hard earned money by pretending to be real, and that really sux, but what about the $50 fakes you can buy on the street corner of a major city??? I still fail to see how that's any different from that homage Panerai that was posted. They're both replicas in my opinion.

I disagree but everyones entitled to their own opinion. It's the same as the new Mini, new VW Beetle, the new homage Rolex Explorer, Submariners, Seadwellers all homages to the originals either explicitly advertised as such or by heritage, are they all crap, I don't think so. For some, it's all about reliving the attachment to the good old times without dealing with the issues associated with owning a vintage equivalent. Offcourse one could drive a 1973 VW Beetle or wear a plastic crystal vintage Submariner but that might not be practical enough to everyone and it might not always be to do with money. It's more about living out the nostalgia associated with the era and if it can be done with a shiny new piece of metal and upgraded engineering representing the design of a bygone era and the person is happy with it in the form of the new Beetle or Mini or a sapphire crystal Explorer or Submariner, so be it. Offcourse if one really wants to traverse the pure vintage route and has the time and energy to do that and live with the issues that vintage things bring, good on them too. I feel and play both homage and vintage and modern once in a while!

my bad i should have been more clear. if a company makes a homeage of their own piece then im all for it. for example if Rolex was to release an updated edition to the Paul Neman Daytona, I would be one of the people who would line up to buy it. Now if some other company not owned by Rolex was to make a homeage to the Daytona and call it something else, then i would not be interested. IMO this is cheating and making money off someone elses well known design.

the pic that the op originally posted was a piece that was not manufactured by panerai and was a "homeage" to the brand. WTF is the point of that?!?!? Makes no sense to me. Like I said if the brand releases pieces they have done the past with and upstaed version its all good in my book.

This got removed, still not sure why - pretty sure I didn't violate any terms (at least not in this post).

What do you think got removed? I've checked the moderation logs and there's nothing that's been deleted under your name since this thread was started. Are you sure you didn't press Cancel instead of Submit when you posted?

I got accused of the same thing via PM

I was in the emergency room yesterday for a non-stop cough that I've been having occasional bouts with, they told me it was bronchitis. Given all the meds they gave me, chances are I may very well have imagined making the post LOL.

Curious - I took off my watch (Breitling World) before going, when they took x-rays if I had it on could that cause it to get magnetized?

Search "magnetic" or something like that. You'll find a pretty long thread about what people think can and can't magnetize your watch.

Sadly, I must admit to buying an homage watch. I bought a Marina Militaire just to see if I would like it, before pulling the trigger on a Panerai. An homage in my opinion, is a watch that looks like the real thing, without the logo, admitting it is NOT the real thing. It works with MM for those who can't afford a PAM, but want the look. That being said, it worked for me, I sold the MM, and went with a PAM. Haven't looked back since. 8)
