Been to my local AD today and seen a few of the new models.

TO Chrono 7990 Euro....On Croco!

Come on Breitling your good but your not that good.

Looks like I am priced out of any new Breiltings give the offerings and more so at that sort of money.

A Few Breitlings.

Actually I have been quite astounded how expensive the new watches are. At those prices you can get an older watch second hand in solid 18ct gold. Why would anyone buy new today? I was in my local dealer last week and they have a new steel Navitimer with steel bracelet for just over £7K, or about 9K euros!!! The same shop has a nice second hand solid gold day-date Rolex with 18ct President bracelet for £9K, or one with a leather strap for £5K.

The last new Breitling I got was the Emergency Orbiter 3 watch about ten years ago, and then a few years before that I got a steel/gold Chrono with a steel/gold Pilot bracelet; at that time a second hand gold watch was a fair bit more than those. Even more remarkable now considering how much gold has gone up in value as well. Can anyone shed any light on why this could be?

I don't think it's limited to Breitling. When you consider that 5 years ago an Omega Planet Ocean retailed for £1800. Today the EXACT same watch retails for £2800. A Planet Ocean with the improved 8500 co-axial movement and ceramic bezel costs £3800. Sure it's an improvement from the £1800 PO with the 2500 co-axial movement but a £2000 improvement? Makes you look back and think about all the bargains we missed

Yup, scary money these days. I'm saving up for a Transocean Chrono and at current list it will be the most expensive one I've bought by a fair margin...its been a few years since the last one, but its still an enormous increase. This time around I find myself seriously wondering about what else the same money could get me / wife / family, and suffering (slight) pangs of concience. I'll be pushing my AD hard for a decent discount, they have after all had good business from me so far, but, and heres the thing, once I get set on something I usually fall into the heart ruling the head side of things. I may not fight too hard, but this one will have some of the purchasing pleasure knocked off it.

I was actually at an AD yesterday, and i was shocked that all the watches i was looking at ended up being between $6k and $9k. At the point i'm in IWC terrioty, and it didnt take long for me to switch showcases.
Sorry Breitling, but i cant justify your prices. Because of this, I dont think I'll ever buy a new Breitling again.

Next watch - IWC Spitfire.

Yep, prices of all major Swiss watch brands have gotten ridiculous, especially in the U.S., given our rotten dollar performance these days. Still, for some reason Breitling just seems more out of court than brands such as Rolex or Omega. I think it's because the other brands are making positive changes to their models, which enhance and advance the model and the brand. Conversely, Breitling for the most part seem on a downward spiral, while their prices get ever higher. $8000 for a Sub-C is stupid, but at least for that money you're getting a true classic. And the changes Rolex implemented make sense: maxi dial, ceramic bezel with platinum numerals and scaling, an upgraded bracelet. Compare that to a Chronomat 44 for $8960, where I have to convince myself the Buck Rogers bezel isn't really "all that bad." No thanks. At that price, I've got to love it. The only current Breitlings I could even begin to see myself getting are the Aerospace and the SOH 42, but given their competition in that price range, it's doubtful I'd end up going with either of them.

My SF New in my AD this year was 2350e. Looks like a bargain to current prices imo. More or less an impulse for me. Now for me anyway and, Given current offerings but lets not get into that, any thing in the current price range is not. So to quote dragons den...I'm
out!

To OP,
I agree that prices are going mad but as said it is all of them. I was playing with the thought of selling my ChronoMatic 24 LE as hardly ever worn but seems silly not to keep it as an investment now.

A bit of a political statement in blue above; don't want to get into a big political debate here! Bottom line is there does seem something odd with the way Breitling are pricing their watches. I don't know much about the tax system in Switzerland but even if it has an effect on watch prices it surely can't be by the percentages we have seen. For example Switerland is famous for chocolate and the price of this hasn't gone through the roof as far as I can see.

A further pointer towards the mad pricing; if you compare Breitling prices to other luxury goods such as cars, over the past ten years say, Ferraris have increased by maybe 50%; Breitlings have pretty much gone up 300%. Going back to my example of the steel Navitimer, it costs now the same as a brand new small car. Ten years ago the price of a small car would have got you a solid gold Chronomat with a leather strap.
