#1, how come the rubber straps are so damn expensive? Is it a special type of rubber, or is this a case of the name inflating the cost. I totally understand the actual watch costing a lot, but a rubber strap!? Come on man!!

#2, I've had my watch for about 3 months now, LOVING IT! I bought it used from a fellow, got it checked and authenticated before I paid, it's running (and looks) tip top. It's a 09 I believe, when/ how often should I service it and is there a ballpark of what I should expect to pay? I've heard $500... if that's the case I better start a little savings account.

Thank you :)

It's natural rubber, and the strap itself isn't that expensive by Breitling standards - under $100 for just the rubber.

Servicing costs are on the Breitling website and vary by country - choose your country under maintenance centres and there is a PDF. Generally speaking a chrono service is $550 - $600 at the moment. As a rule of thumb it needs a service every 5 - 7 years, but more accurately it needs one when it can't maintain COSC accuracy and / or a decent power reserve.

The servicing section of the FAQs has links to the service videos that show what is involved - http://www.breitlingsource.com/articles_faq.shtml#2

I'm a fan of the Oceanracer band and deployment clasp and have been quoted between $750.00 Canadian and a thousand for that combo at the 3 Breitling AD's here.

Wow! Buying an OR/deploy from those ADs doesn't sound like a "wise investment." The OR rubber pieces go for $75 USD and the deploy is in the range of $400 USD after the recent price increases. A grand should get you two AND a nice Breitling calf strap/tang buckle.

I'd be happy to get one for you and ship it to you for a mere $650.
