Let's cut the pen down the middle and we can share it. Seinfeld reference!

Those who don't know WKRP in Cincinnati are destined to repeat it.

Dear Breitling

People have a hard time embracing change ,and feel the new line might go to far to be comforting additions . People will always have there favourites IE : Navitimer, Super Avenger,Chronomat but I like the Transocean and its chronometric twin. My wife loves her Galactic 36 automatic, great looks and value.

I have always admired the classic styling and functionality of your products and I know in this day and age you have to attract a new customer base ,but It feels like the clients who have spent thousands an your products and services in the past have been brushed aside for a new client the disposable (Gen x,y,eco ) what ever their called this week ,I'm a boomer but I'm sure you figured that out .

Keep making your excellent products and adding new products but maintain the standards and materials (no rubber bezels in rainbow colors) that made you recognised for a solid reliable quality product that you have always been known for . Keep your Brand strong.

By the By I'm aware the contest is over but being Canadian Means never getting Swag unless we buy it from Ebay . Can you imagine I spent $ 36 K on my last visit to my Breitling AD and never got so much as a thank you note .

While I do agree with what everyone is saying, I'm going to play devils advocate here and say that the rubber bezel IS a good idea. It probably resists scratches more and perhaps it has grip in situations where smooth steel would not. Also, perhaps they're switching the line up because they're not making enough sales? If everyone has a vintage piece and they hang onto it, no need to buy another of the same right? perhaps they were seeing a loss in profit and decided to spruce up models to make sales. Maybe I'm way off base here. Of course I think they should keep all the original pieces, but perhaps offer all the new features as well to give everyone some choices.

give me the pen!!!!

Ceramic or sapphire would resist scratches better, and I don't think you would see many people complaining about use of those materials, unlike with rubber. That said, I don't recall anybody complaining that the brushed steel bezels were that prone to scratching anyway. As for grip, the steel bezels weren't purely smooth. They either had rider tabs or some sort of scalloping or coin edge to help with grip. (The Superoceans still do.) I honestly don't see how rubber improves the situation.

Other companies seem to be doing fine by tweaking existing classics enough to maintain interest, without completely altering them so they no longer hold the appeal they once had. See Rolex Sub-C, Omega Planet Ocean, Seamaster Pro ceramic, Aqua Terra, etc. Then again, you may be right; perhaps Breitling's models simply didn't have the foothold of customer loyalty that Omega and Rolex models do, and Breitling felt the need to shake things up. Without access to sales numbers, I have no way of knowing. All I know is what I like, and Breitling's current offerings (for the most part) aren't it. If enough people feel similarly, Breitling's strategy isn't working.
