So we are agreed; the new Colt is Pony!!

To explain: "Pony" is Cockney rhyming slang... pony and trap,, crap!)

Doesn't work if it needs to be explained, unlike the colt which doesn't and really cannot be.

Well as much as I hate to admit this, I ordered a new Colt 33 for my wife today. (Silver dial on bracelet) She is new to Breitling with no exposure to any of the older bezels or designs so her perspective is certainly different than ours. I’ve said before I wasn’t a huge fan of the new design but somehow it is speaking to her…which I FULLY support!

She is a professional artist/sculptor and knows what she likes when she sees it. She looked at several models including a new Callisto (2006, blue dial on bracelet) that the AD brought down to a VERY reasonable level but she kept coming back to the Colt feeling that it was a nice cross between sport and style for her.

I don’t feel as strongly as everyone here about the new designs but who am I to talk my wife out of a watch that she was bring up to me days after being at the AD. We’ve all been there ourselves and the new Colt seemed to be “that watch” for her.

I’ll put up some pictures when it arrives in December. I’m optimistic about liking it once it’s here.

- Peter

PS - Let the thrashing begin! :D

No, I think it's that way

Ok, I don't know where it is, so I guess we'll just have to accept your decision.

For this premise to make sense, it presupposes the concept that crap is a relative notion, and that one won't recognize crap without something better with which to compare it. Personally, I don't agree: crap is crap, and it stinks, whether I've smelled a rose before or not.

That said...

Well hey...no accounting for taste. In all seriousness, if she likes it, that's what matters most. Personally, I don't get it, unless that artist/sculptor thing has warped her sense of aesthetics (you know...modern artists have actually declared urinals to be art), but whatever. I hope she wears it in good health.

To paraphrase George Costanza, it's not a waterpipe-blocking turd if you believe it's not.

I'm so keen to see the new Colts. Not because I want one, of course, but I'm simply so curious how any single watch design can have such a universal and unanimous slating.

However, we haven't got them in the shop yet. I asked about this and was told, "Would you rush to get them in?". Fair point.

I still want to see them though.

Either that, or a Cimarron.

Honestly if it didn't say "Breitling" on the dial I wouldn't think it was bad. My only problem with it is that it looks like a Tag, not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't make sense for a Breitling. The old Colts were great looking watches and it seems like they updated and changed them for no other reason than because they could.

Enough of that, I hope your wife enjoys it, I know I'd be thrilled if my wife wanted one instead of her damn ESQ that I can't seem to get her to part with.

Thanks roman4405...and you're right on! I was so excited that she finally starting taking an interest at all that if she wanted to wear a Super Avenger I would buy it for her.

I'll put up some pics as soon as we have it so you guys can tear in to me some more. 8) Good fun!

You know I'm just messing with you, right? I don't, for one second, begrudge anyone wearing a watch they like.* If your wife likes the Colt, more power to her. Hell, these days, when I'm bumming around the house, I find myself wearing my Nike digital watch. That thing has better timekeeping features than a $50,000 automatic...and it cost $50.

Salud! :D

* Except Invictas. People who wear those things are assholes.

Then again, you don't have to wear an Invicta to be an asshole.

Bwahahahahaha

I just noticed an invicta AD in the mall near my house the other day. I decided to take a look, it was not a good idea. Those things suck.

I was counting on it with all the nice things everyone had to say about the Colt when we first saw it this summer. :? ...figured I would get banned from the forum for buying one.
