I found a few of their timepieces that I love. Most notably the Master Control as it's very similar to the Omega Seamasters of the 1950s; however, I like the 40mm size and the simplicity. Thinking it may be a nice addition to the collection as my "dress" watch.

But I don't know anything about the brand and appreciate any input/feedback you guys can provide regarding quality. They seem to hold their value pretty well.....?

I've had the pleasure of owning 6 JLCs and they are exceptional watches. The hold their value better than Breitling but not as well as Panerai; you can expect to fetch between 40-45% off of retail if you sell your piece. In terms of movements, they are the best movement maker in the watch world IMO. They have created over 1,500 different calibers, the nearest competitors has less than half of that number. Their movements have been used in some of the best watches out there, AP, Panerai etc. Every watch is in-house and every watch goes through their own 1,000 hour control testing which is arguably more stringent than the COSC standards. They are one of the few brands that I love every line; sport watches, dive watches, dress watches, Reverso's, they’re all amazing. JLC does just about everything right IMO.

That's a beautiful watch.

I was on the verge of buying this one. It's similar but it's a bit thinner, has a thinner bezel, but has no date. Notice how the end of the strap curves with the case. What a great detail.



This one is very similar to yours but also has an alarm complication.



As Sergio said, they're great watches and these dress watches are my favorite of them all.

That Master Control seems like a lot of quality and class for the price. I have tried the thin one on--hard to believe it's an automatic. They are, as Serge said, a movement company and "manufacture". Similar to my Breguet, just winding certain models gives you a feeling of quality and craftsmanship. And, yeah, um, I just bought one tonight. Details elsewhere in this fine site.

Serge covered it. They have a nice blend of timelessness and new tech innovation. A lot of the big players are way too classic for my tastes and dont tend to push the boundries at all. Ive heard them referred to as the "watchmaker's watch." Id probably buy JLC if you told me I could only buy one brand of watch for the rest of my life. No true aficionado would scoff at a JLC.

I don't know how anyone could have an honest negative opinion. The only iffy part is I would like to see a better and less costly bracelet option then they presently have. But this is JLC for Pete's sake - they are essentially a strap watch company.

If I was in the mood and position to spend $45K for a gold watch (or about $25K in SS), it would be hard to resist the Master Grande Reveil. Perputual calendar, moon phase, 43mm, and an alarm. What a watch!

Agree with Tom on the bracelets - the rubber bracelet is amazingly comfortable, but the price is crazy

I think everyone has pretty well covered it as far as JLC's reputation is concerned. The Master Control will be my next watch when the time is right...unless I can score a great deal on a pre-loved MC day/night or MC Reserve de Marche or MC Eight days...you get the idea. The MC is a simple, versatile dress piece from one of THE premier watchmaker's at a reasonable price.

There is one on TZ right now for a great price. Why wait???

I believe Jay Leno rocks that bad boy every night on the Tonight Show; that's a gorgeous piece. I agree that their bracelets aren't the greatest but their rubber articulated bracelet is amazing as Roff said. They also use really nice croc straps which are thin and classy...and are usually curved between the lugs at Pete showed earlier.

This time next year I will be in the market to treat myself and I want to own a pure dress watch...something I've never owned before...and it will be a JLC for sure.

I see in your new signature that you have changed it up a bit. how do you like the IWC AT?

Oh yes...the Gold version is a stunner!!!! I'd love for that to be my first Rose Gold watch...just beautiful.

The IWC AT just arrived today via a good buddy of mine on here. I like it very much, I hate to go off topic so I'll try to tie it into a JLC comparision. The IWC AT has exceptional finishing for a fairly inexpensive watch. The brushed finish on the case looks beautiful and the sharp angles on the lugs are very nice looking. The saphire covered bezel (ala FF) is very VERY nice. It doesn't wear as big as I expected which is a good thing and I feel it's because the lugs, while they appear long, they aren't because of their downward slope. The dial is very legible and rubber strap is comfy. Overall I am really impressed with the watch and for the money it's a solid buy. It wears very similar to my old JLC MCDC Diver; slightly thinner and the IWC has a nicer finish actually....at 1/3 the price it's a bargain.

I agree 100% on the value of the IWC. I cant see myself replacing it anytime soon as it would be hard to match the quality without taking a pretty big jump in price.
