10/23 EDIT--- Some off the board, a couple added. Nobody said this would be easy.
I deleted the back-story in the interest of space. Further update at or near the bottom of the thread.

I'm going to two watches. I had four, now three with my old GMT sold. I haven't forgotten those watches I wanted, which are still available. I have fretted for a week now on which two I'll keep, or sell one and replace, and I have even contemplated selling them all and starting over, to lessen the regret of cutting the collection in half. I'm going to have one "more expensive" piece and one less, and I'd like them to still provide me a little variety until I'm ready to add on again.

Why tell you all of this? Because it's time to solicit opinions, which are welcome but I reserve that right to follow not at all. I'm still figuring it out. But to get some more input here, with pictures, are some of the pairings I'm considering. I'll be interested to have your feedback. As reference, right now I own a Breguet XXI, Breitling Navi Heritage, and Breitling Headwind. Here we go:

Option 1: Keep Breguet, sell others, buy white steelfish.

Option 2: Keep Breguet, buy Opalescent Tudor Tiger Chrono a/k/a Date-tona

Option 3: Sell everything, buy lightly used Rolex GMT-C and white Steelfish--OFF THE LIST

Option 4: Sell all, buy GMT-C and Tudor Tiger--NOPE

Option 5: Keep Headwind, buy IWC Cousteau 2010 with bracelet and rubber--NOT NOW

Option 6: Keep Headwind, buy lightly used Stainless/Platinum Rolex Yachtmaster

Option 7: Sell everything, buy JLC GMT and Tudor Tiger

Option 8: Keep Navi Heritage, buy JLC (Cost issue here, but maaaybe)

Right now I could go either way with the Breguet, again only because I think it's probably not an only or only-other watch, but part of a larger collection. i could hold on though, because I'll add back some time in the future. I think that question is answered tomorrow. There is one other white dial watch that sort of enticed me, a pre-owned Omega Hour Vision. Unique, like the bracelet a lot, but at that point I'd be money ahead to keep the Navi, thought the Hour Vision is a little more subtle. As before, all comments, criticisms, psychoanalyses are welcome. After all, whichever of my watches I decide to sell will soon be coming to a sales board near you.

Crikey! My head's spinning. But I'd go for option 2. It seems to have a nice variety in areas colour and formality. ONly problem is two chronos if you're keen for a 3 hander.

I'd go with option 3 ... Rolex sub-c is a great watch (even though personally I find it a little too small) and you don't need much of a reason to own a steelfish

My advice would be to stay true to your ultimate goal. If you really REALLY want the IWC and the Tudor, then I'd recommend forgetting about others that may be just stop-gaps and keep focussed on those two. If you don't I guarantee you will only end up selling whatever you buy now at some stage (no doubt taking a hit on the price) to fund the IWC and Tudor in the end.

Is it not an option to sell all your current watches, and then buy one of either the IWC or Tudor now? You could always also buy a stupidly cheap beater as well if you don't feel comfortable have just one all-purpose watch.

This is a similar reason to why I've had a bit of a watch-buying hiatus myself recently. Other financial commitments have meant that my descretionary watch fund has been reduced (and in fact put on hold for the time being), but the benefits have been that it's allowed me to pare down my "wish-list" from around twelve to a mere three watches that I'm aiming for. In a bizarre way it's actually been a good thing for me as I'm a bit of a serial chop-and-changer with my "watch targets", and having a semi-enforced break from buying has resulted in me being absolutely sure what I'm aiming for. I know 100% that my next purchase will be a life-long keeper.

So, back to your question (and apologies for my ramble in the middle), I suggest doing what you need to do now financially, and stay focused on your ultimate goals. Don't settle for a halfway house in the meantime.

I'd go for the GMTIIc and the Steelfish

Driver--Interesting thoughts there. You make a good point about the IWC and Tudor. The GMT-C and Yachtmaster came into the picture by opening my mind a bit more than before, and the sale of my old GMT. I am struggling, though, about the question of whether any of these are stop-gaps. That is why I hesitated on the Omegas I considered and I may test-wear a Yacht this weekend (Did I mention my long-time watch guy is fantastic?) I need to see the IWC once more, too. I'm not that much a fan of any of the other ATs except the original three-hand Cousteau, but the color scheme on the 2010 on Stainless just wows me. It has similar presence to the Breguet but is also a bit like the Breguet, maybe too "unique" for a two watch collection? And I may try and leave the door open for a 400 or under Victorinox Divemaster or Steinhart of some sort. By the way, based on my OP and this, I am totally cool on rambling, no apologies needed. And I'm also trying to make temporary austerity a little interesting and fun.

From the way that you have spoken about your Breguet in the past, I would suggest keeping it. That may be one you regret selling. As for the others, I'm afraid I don't really have any sound advice, except to echo Driver8 and not to settle on anything just to get a new watch. Get what you really want, even if your patience will be tried.

Tell me about it brother! I've had two root canals/posts/crowns with a third one on the way! In total about 9k USD in as many months  That's my watch budget for the year totally blown!

Of the options presented I'd go with number 3. I think you'd have all your bases covered with those two beauties.

Wow Scott ! Sorry, I have no sound advice on this :? . I would be tempted to keep the Headwind though. If I were a Rolex fan, that Yachmaster has a very nice dial color (seen it up close), but you would have to remove the cyclops, .

Good luck :!:
