I know all the new POs come with the 4 year warranty as well.

I find it odd that this watch has a 4 year warranty. Mine came with a 3 year. I thought the 4 year was for the silicon balance spring. Did I miss the mentioning of the new AT having this?

According to the Omega website, the calibres featuring the silicon balance spring are the 8520, 8521, 8421, 8601 and 8611. They also say the list "will be extended in 2011 to cover additional calibres." Presumably the 8500 is now on the list, which would cover all Aqua Terra and PO three-hands. Since the "Golf" is brand new, it makes sense it would have the latest version of the movement. A lot of existing AT stock, however, probably still has the non-silicon movement.

I've also seen speculation that the 2500 might also be upgraded to include the silicon spring, but I don't know how well-founded that is.

According to TZ, the golf edition will retail for $4,600 and will be available in the US in November. I'm guessing as of now, it's only in the boutiques and will hit all ADs in November.

Now that's interesting. The other AT three-hands retail at $5,500. Why would a new model, with the latest movement (e.g., silicon spring), retail for $900 less? Not that I'm complaining, mind you. It's just surprising.

:yeahthat Really interesting, I would have guessed that maybe it's a smaller size, but the size difference does not change the cost on the current AT's Hmmm...

I tried it on at the Scottsdale boutique today. I think the green hue works fine, just a little brighter than the green hand on a Rolex GMT but I liked it. Same size as other ATs, I didn't look at the price because I was primarily there to see the white dial AT and DeVille, but I thought it was 5500, just like the other ATs.

I was in Seattle today and had a chance to stop by the Omega boutique. They had an AT Golf in stock. The price tag on it is $5500, the same as the other ATs. Also, according to the sales staff, it is a boutique exclusive. It is not a limited edition, or even a special edition; it is a standard production watch, but it will be limited in its distribution. If the staff is correct, ADs will not be getting them. I commented that the ADs probably won't be too happy about that, which gave the associate a chance to talk about how Omega is increasingly moving away from the AD business model, and toward a boutique model, and that the Golf is a manifestation of that. I'll take the information at face value for the time being. I'm not entirely convinced, but I don't have any facts that would say otherwise. Given that the boutiques are still making the claim three months after the watch first started appearing in stores, that certainly gives it more weight, in my opinion.

The green accents strike me as being even more vibrant in person than how they appear on the website, rather than more muted, as I had thought they might be. That is not necessarily a bad thing, since it works very well with the lacquered, almost "wet" looking black dial. In some lights, you can't even see the green, so on the whole it is fairly subtle, despite the vibrancy of the hue. I think it is a gorgeous watch, but I'm not sure it will work in every situation, the way the other ATs tend to. It definitely has an allure, though.

I also got confirmation that the non-green black AT is only available in mid-size. That's a new addition this year, so evidently that was what was shown at Basel. At the current time, the Golf is the only black-dial AT that will be available in full size. Also interestingly, the associate said the Golf does not have the silicon balance spring; Omega now offers four-year warranties on all their watches with in-house movements. The black mid-size ATs do have the silicon spring, however. (No mention at all of the blue-dial AT. :? )
