.....check out this baby.

I've never seen this one before, but it's got everything you could want from a watch. Open movement that beats at 36,600 too. Very very nice indeed and while it's expensive it's not sell-kidney-expensive.

That's the one that Altair's lusting after next (or should I say one of them  ). I like it, but personally I prefer the gold version - not practical, but drop dead gorgeous, and not that expensive relative to the stell version - http://www.prestigetime.com/item.php?item_id=7092

There is also a Multicity version of the Defy Classic introduced this year - http://www.zenith-watches.com/scripts/g ... eid=3_5_14 - not as nice in my opinion, but I guess you have to prefer the Classic over the Class.

Roff,

I have to say, that Defy Classic Multicity is pretty amazing, and the 18kt gold version of the Grande Class Open Traveller Multicity is nice, but I think I actually prefer the steel...... which is probably a good thing as the steel version maybe just about within reach! :)

In fact I love this so much, I may put buying another Breitling onto the back-burner for a while and see what I can do to get this Zenith. I don't think I've come across any other model in a long time (other than Breitlings of course) that "speaks" to me like this one does. I NEED IT!!!

I'm starting to feel that way on this one - http://www.authenticwatches.com/zenith- ... 1c611.html

I'm determined to get it as a Christmas present / annual bonus to myself at the end of the year - I just have to figure out (a) how to wait that long and (b) how to get it with everything else that I'm looking at - the rest of the Legende, another Breitling LE that I'm working on and a couple of other 'want to have' watches.

That's a beauty too! And it's a very good price from Authenticwatches as well.....

I like this one. Nice looking piece. I do like the traditional looking Zeniths much better than the Defy Xtreme series.

I want to like the Defy Extreme - I just can't get there. I do like the Defy Classic, but I much prefer the gold and steel versions so we're back to practicality - especially with a watch that has an inherently sporty look.

I was sure that I wanted an El Primero movement, and I wanted an open piece and while I like the Multicity (although as I said I prefer the gold - expensive tastes) I find that the Open watches in the Class range aren't actually that open compared to the Chronomaster. So, unless I win the lottery and can get an Academy Quantieme Perpetuel it's the Chronomaster XXT Open Grande Date for me.

It's not the pure dress watch that Doctor Diesel's is, but it definitely adds to the dressier side of my collection while still allowing to be 'dressed down' to some degree.

I must admit though, while some of the newest Zeniths are amazing pieces of machinery (Zero G Tourbillon for example), I am slightly disappointed to see them move away from some of their more classic pieces.

I know what you mean about the Defy Extreme. I kind of like them, and then I suddenly think they look a bit Seiko/Casio, etc.

The Grande Class Open Traveller Multicity and the Chronomaster Open Grande Date are so much nicer. And a decent size as well. I NEED one (or both :? )

+1

Rolex has proved that it is possible to run a model for 50 years with slight changes, why not just change slightly?

Why move away from something that sells well? I don't understand Zenith's thinking there either. I would love to own a Zenith someday. Great looking pieces, but I just don't know enough about the brand.

When shopping for a Zenith, I had a lot of trouble finding one I wanted to.. and when I found out the Chronomaster Open didn't have a date... it was a difficult call. I was kind of stuck on wanting the El Primero movement which meant that it was going to be a chrono... why they felt a power reserve was more important than a date, I don't know.

I always liked the Defy classic series, and like Roff I really like the Gold and steel versions, but at nearly double the price they are not practical especially for my first zenith. I elected to try and find a model using the Elite caliber instead, and with my wrist size, i felt both the 43 and 46.5mm models would be okay.

I finally ended up buying this model:
