After over 4 years, Omega finally sent me the Speedmaster X-33 I ordered through a former USN squadron. Right after they accepted our group order, they told us they quit manufacturing the watch so the order would not be honored. Then about a year ago, they contacted us and said they were going to start making them again and did we still want the watches. It came today.

My question is the bracelet is titanium and more of a gunmetal grey than silver. When I get the inevitable swirls on the clasp & bracelet, can I still use the scotch pad trick on it?

Congrats on finally getting the watch!

Yes you can use Scotchbrite on titanium, but when you use it the area you've brushed will appear brighter and more shiny than the surrounding metal. This is because titanium oxidises on the surface when exposed to air, and it's that that gives it it's distinctive grey colour. When you brush ti the surface oxide is removed so the "new" metal appears brighter. At this point it's important not to panic and end up brushing way too much in an attempt to blend it in! Over the course of a few weeks the newly brushed area will oxidise on its own and will eventually blend in with surrounding metal just fine.

So what did you all do on the case back?? Wings and callsign or squadron logo.

Omega does nice work on the engraving. Pictures???

The case back has my name, NFO wings, U.S. Navy, P-3C Orion. I went with my name instead of a callsign because I had a different callsign in each of my three squadrons. I always seemed to have a "new" event that need immortalizing..... (Although I am an airline pilot now, I was a NFO in the Navy).

Can't post any pictures now as I'm on the road for a couple of weeks and I left it at home. I use my Colt as my work watch so only one gets abused by banging against things in the cockpit.

How do those pens work? Are the tips like a mini scotch pad?

Sound like a great looking watch. I would love to see a picture when you get back in town.

The pen is really usefull. I use it on my X-33 and Aerospace as well. I'm not sure of the composition of the tip but it is great for removing surface scratches. It looks similar to an eraser. You simply pull it over the blemish with a little pressure and pull it in the direction of the brushed finish.

Were you down in JAX? I have a friend that was a pilot at VP-26. I think they looked at the X-33 but threr was a problem at the time getting parts.

I did my DH tour at Jax in VP-16 in 1995-96.

I'll check out the pen.
